    If you'd like to try pottery or are an experienced potter, this is a wonderful studio to have in town! Clean, bright, cool in the summer heat. Friendly instructors and owners. Great location too!

    I've been a ceramics student in the intermediate to advanced class for over a year. High Fire Hawaii offers a very spacious, well equipped, and air conditioned studio space to work in. The intermediate/advanced class is more unstructured and relaxed, we often enjoy a bit of a pot luck if pupus and wine while we play with clay, and I love the opportunity to share ideas and techniques with other students. The studio manager/teacher, Shannon, is always available to answer questions and offer advice, as well as lessons/tutorials for the group based on student interest/requests, and does a great job helping while encouraging you to create your own artwork.     I've been taking classes here for a few months now and really enjoy it. The facility is well organized and clean. It's fun to learn and socialize. I especially appreciate the open studio times. My first two classes were with Shannon, who is a force of nature. One needs to have a lot of strength and determination to have a ceramics studio open for as long as she has in an area like Hilo. At times she can be a bit gruff but she's had to put up with a lot of careless students who don't pay attention and cause tremendous damage (destroying kiln shelves, destroying plumbing, etc etc etc).
