A really amazing Martial Arts school with great instructor. A life changer for kids as well as adults. If you live near you definitely should give it a try. I teach martial arts all over the world but this is one of the schools I really love most. Oh, before I forget, if you walk up to Grandmaster Pierson and tell him "Ben said Bless your heart and thank you for coming" you get a 10% discount on your first month ??
Clay and Debbie Pierson run a great dojo that is friendly and welcoming to all. They offer American Tang Soo Do, Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with a variety of assistants and instructors. They have two sons that grew up within these systems and are instructors as well. They are have several other dojos in Richmond Hill, Ga. and Twin City, Ga.. Plus, they have built relationships with several other dojos through their many years of training and teaching/instructing others from Georgia to California.
The Statesboro Karate Dojo is unique and is a large place to train. I myself have been going there for slightly over 5 years and have trained in their Krav Maga program for over 6 years. I just became a black belt in KM in December 2019. My training was exactly what I wanted for self defense. It was high intensity, realistic, and a hell of a workout at times. The instructors JR (lead instructor-Black Belt) and JL (fill in- assistant instructor and BB) were both encouraging and showed solid knowledge of the craft. Because of the proximity to the college, there were enough young as well as older folks. Loved going- even if I had to drive 80 min each way to get there twice a week. I had looked around at other places closer to where I work, but none offered the variety of types of training this place had. I signed on for additional training in BBJ (Brazilian Jujitsu), Arnis Stick training (also known as Escrima/Kali), and pressure point training (very little in pressure points- but some nonetheless). They also offer a few more programs and martial arts. The friendships and enduring training were incredible experiences. The owner Clay/ Deb his wife are also incredible people (both Black Belts in Tang Soo Do and KM--and instructors in the other various programs there). Also Deb was very helpful in piecing together some bodybuilding music I needed on two competitions that I did while attending the dojo. If I had to say one thing negative- it would be the parking at peak training hours. But it is a lively place, with many interesting people that come through the place. I even remember one night a big guy claiming to represent the air marshal program testing the skills of our BB JR- JR was asked by the guy to give him a low roundhouse to his thigh. JR did it--the funny things that go on in the dojo, LOL. In conclusion, I would still be going there, but my employment and family take me to Orlando now. The lessons and knowledge gained here were priceless. Good luck- if you decide to walk this path. No regrets through the blood and tears. God Bless, Michael Martin KM BB
