Most consumers purchase HVAC upgrades "backwards": Brand and cost first, installer selection second. In reality, the quality and competence of the installation (and its load calculation and related design and measurements and implementation details) BY FAR trump any individual brand and marketing. Corollary 1: HVAC brands are not unlike GM or Ford marquees from decades ago: "One for every pocketbook", manufactured in the same assembly plants. Ask your HVAC professional. Corollary 2: you should pick your installer (typically also the company that will maintain your system for years afterwards) first; the equipment manufacturer and brand is utterly secondary to your expected satisfaction. Case in point: I followed my own advice, and chose Knepper as a local vendor (keeping my dollars in my community) for a pretty out-of-the-ordinary high-end install. The sales process was low-pressure, highly informative and well adapted to my HVAC expertise level (dare I say above average?) Crucially, there were unforeseen surprises during and after the install. Knepper took complete ownership and escalated to the vendor who, thanks to their long-established vendor-installer relationship, took the issue seriously. Manufacturer experts were parachuted to troubleshoot, and all issues were resolved. Knepper has earned my business for life.
