“I have been having my chimney cleaned by this company for almost 30 years. They came in March, and performed the usual thorough job for a reasonable price. Then a few weeks later, I heard an animal scratching on the metal flue, and I thought maybe they didn’t get the screen back on the top of the chimney correctly, and something had gotten inside the flue that couldn’t get out. The noise continued for hours. I’m not a roof kind of guy, so I called Capital Services and told the lady what was happening. I said that if she sent someone out to check things out, and it turned out that the top was on right, I would pay them for their time. That afternoon, two employees as well as the company owner came to my house, but by then the noise had stopped. The chimney cap had been on right all along. The owner pointed out that on the type of chimney I have there is a gap between the inner liner and the outer liner that is not covered by the chimney cap, and that sometimes a small animal can fall in and have trouble finding its way out. The employees thought whatever was in there had found its way out, and the owner thought maybe I had rodents in my attic scratching the flue. He recommended a rodent exterminator. I never heard that noise again, but the important thing to mention is that while I got all that attention, I never got that bill I promised to pay.“
