I had to wait a month to get an initial appointment in April. I wanted an allergist in the Baptist system so I didn't have to contend with another, separate patient portal. Although both Dr. Dorman and Joshi are listed as being Baptist affiliated, their practice has a separate portal that requires a very extensive medical history. Trying to get help with portal questions over the phone is a waste of time. Before I was able to schedule a first appointment with Dr. Dorman, I spent 30 minutes on the phone trying to verify that the practice would accept my insurance. (I have never had a problem with any doctor in the Baptist system accepting my insurance). After a significant wait in both the waiting and exam room, I spent about 10 minutes with Dr. Dorman, and he agreed to test me for an allergy to penicillin. That appointment was in April, but they couldn't schedule the actual testing until July. I was told to plan on a 2-hour appointment for the test. I arrived a little before my appointment time, but wasn't taken to an exam room for 20 minutes after that, and I waited in there with nothing to do for another 20 minutes. An assistant came in to take my BP and other routine tests and left me for another 20 minutes. When Dr. Joshi came in to explain the test, I told him that I had gotten a ride from a friend, and we were already there an hour before the allergy test was going to start, so I asked if things could be speeded up. It still took another 20 minutes before the test began and the entire process took 2 full hours. So, I spent 3 1/2 hours basically sitting in a freezing exam room while my friend waited in the waiting room. My blood pressure was so high by the time to leave, (from aggravation) that Dr. Joshi was worried about me leaving. I think he only allowed me to go was because it was time for the office to close. His staff called me numerous times the next morning to make sure I was OK, and Dr. Joshi did seem very concerned. I tend to be impatient and anxious in doctor's offices, but I have never felt so ignored or that my time had been taken for granted. This practice is very busy with a constant flow of patients picking up medications and getting shots, but that's no excuse for expecting patients who have waited months to be tested to wait until there's a break in their busy routine.
I have been a patient for over 20 years. Easy to make an appointment especially if you're in an asthma flare and getting sick. Warm caring staff. Incredibly low turnover on staff. Highly knowledgeable doctors keep up in latest medical practices. Several office locations all over Jax/Orange Park make it easy to schedule an appointment.
This practice purports to be a part of several other Family Allergy and Asthma practices around Jacksonville - at least, that's what the receptionist told me when I booked my first appointment. I was sent there on a referral from another doctor; the first visit was ok - they did what they were supposed to. But after that, that's when things went south...FAST. I was scheduled to go in for a second appointment; I was ill, so I called and left a message (during working hours) to please call me back to reschedule. They never did. So, about a week and a half later, I called for a second appointment and it was granted. When I arrived, I signed in and I waited for nearly an hour before I went up to the receptionist to find out the delay. "There isn't any, as far as I can tell," she said. But I couldn't get a straight answer to when the doctor could see me and I couldn't wait that much longer, so I rescheduled for two days later. I showed up two days later and, not only did the same thing occur, but the receptionist on duty THAT day did not enter my info into the computer, so nobody essentially knew I was there. It's obvious this practice is just in business to supply allergy shots - people come and go every few minutes. Regular clinic patients wait forever. The receptionist let on that they double- and triple-book to ensure attendance. That's not for me. If you want to waste your time, please go. Otherwise, I don't recommend this place.
