After being referred to Dance Awakening by several friends in the Latin dance community, I decided to take Bachata classes. Sergio, the owner and lead instructor, greeted me promptly when I arrived, asked me some questions about my interest and experience, and then introduced me to Melissa, another instructor that would assist him in our beginner class of six students. The one hour class was exactly what I had been looking for! Sergio and Melissa were extremely knowledgeable and patient with our group of beginners. I was especially impressed by the level of technical detail explained for both for "leads" and "follows," and the amount of practice we were able to complete during the hour that much too quickly passed. After the class, I was invited to stay for a second hour to try the intermediate class taught by Jess, another extremely capable instructor. While this class of eight students was more difficult for me, Jess was very helpful and put me at ease as I struggled. I very much enjoyed both classes, found the teachers and other students friendly and enthusiastic, and immediately purchased a pass for the month. I can't wait to return!
Finding a dance studio that was welcoming to both me and my boyfriend, who has two left feet and even less rhythm, felt like an impossible dream. Enter Dance Awakening! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. My boyfriend, let's call him John, was initially super skeptical. Sergio, one of the instructors, completely understood. He had a way for putting John at ease, focusing on having fun rather than perfection. Sergio's teaching methods were clear and patient, and John never felt out of place. Dance Awakening isn't just about learning Bachata, Salsa or Zouk dance steps ; it's about connection. The focus on self-confidence and partner connection has been amazing for our relationship. We now have a shared activity that gets us moving, laughing, and closer together. Thanks to Sergio and the entire team, we finally found a way to move together on and off the dance floor!
I am very new to Zouk but Sergio and Jess are an amazing teaching team that help you learn technique while making it extremely fun! Dance awakening is not only a class, it is a full community that embraces every new member with arms wide open!
