Would give Z E R O stars if that were an option. Was treated like a criminal by Principal when I didn't have the correct information to access a previous (very old) principal account, while trying to set up my current employer's retirement through Principal. We are talking 20 year old account and I couldn't answer what my phone number was at the time or what my most recent deferral percentage was. They basically told me that I was trying to access an account fraudulently and they couldn't help me. Leaving me no way to set up a new account for my current retirement plan. This company is a total FRAUD! If you are thinking of using Principal for your retirement needs I encourage you not to do so. First, they have the worst customer service and second you can only send them a message through their website because they can never provide email addresses or direct phone numbers. You have reps like Laura who hang up on you and simply dont care about customers. They use very shady practices and you can never obtain a solution. I gave them a call on 06/01 to payoff a 401k loan I had until 06/09/21 to pay and they said it was paid off when I never did. They said they would open a resolution ticket to look into the matter and reverse the transaction. I called on 06/07/21 I spoke with Curtis he confirmed that Principal disbursed my funds without my authorization on 05/31/21 before the 90 day window I had to payoff my loan and couldn't tell me why. He said they would again open a resolution ticket to resolve the matter and no one ever called or emailed me to provide a resolution. Today I receive a message through their website telling me that since I did not pay by 06/09 I could not payoff my loan when it was all Principals screw up. They assured me even if the ticket took longer to resolve from the 06/09 deadline they would allow me to pay.. Mr. Daniel Houston is this the fraudulent business you are running? I better not get tax bill but most importantly but most importantly where does the ethics and integrity lie? I expect a favorable resolution.
