On 5/11/20, I requested service to check on our mosquito problem at my home. My children get welts from the bites, so I felt it was worth it to get help with identification and treatment. Two technicians (very professional and knowledgeable) came out and identified them as aedes aegypti, but we couldn't really locate a water source. They found most were in the back corner of our yard, that connected to the 3 neighboring yards. The problem seemed to correct itself over the next few days, and I thought nothing of it, other than continuing to use of bug spray/DEET, as recommended by him.For the past 2 weeks, bugs have been swarming our back lanai/screen again. I have lived in eight different cities in five different states and in comparison I am amazed how few mosquitoes there are in Lee County. Most favorable conditions for breeding mosquitoes with the least number of the biting pests. GREAT JOB!!
The problem seemed to correct itself over the next few days, and I thought nothing of it, other than continuing to use of bug spray/DEET, as recommended by him. For the past 2 weeks, bugs have been swarming our back lanai/screen again. We've tried different pet/child friendly hose/yard sprays, including DEET, but have been unsuccessful in completely eliminating them. The spray we use is an all natural peppermint/clove oil solution from Vets Best, and it smells great! However, once sprayed, the bugs come back within a day. So, I put in another request for mosquito control. They emailed back within an hour stating they could be out the next day to inspect. Nick arrived before noon the next day, and was also very professional and knowledgeable. As soon as he saw the swarm around my lanai, he identified them as midge flies (to me they look like mosquitoes lol. Nick advised that they don't bite, they have a short lifespan, shed their exoskeleton, lay eggs, and die. They are usually inland cape coral, where there is standing water. He said the best way to get rid of them is a home barrier spray from Home Depot, with the active ingredient "permethrin." He swears by it and advised that the kind he uses is kid and pet safe, kills on contact, both midge flies and mosquitos. He went ahead and inspected the rest of our back yard, and sure enough, found those aggressive aedis egypti in that same back corner. He noticed that the neighbors had a type of palm tree that aedes aegypti love (because of the ounce or more of water that the fallen fronds can house). He explained that they dont travel far, and confirmed they are aggressive, explaining the welts on my children at the bite sites. Nick was so awesome that he even checked out the empty lot and neighbor behind me, where the palms are located. He was able to inspect the area to confirm and advise the neighbors as well. Great, professional, knowledgeable service by these guys. Would definitely recommend giving a call if you're having an issue.
