Some interesting facts I learned when getting my eye exam at the absolutely amazing, privately owned business, Eyes On Sunrise in Fort Lauderdale across from the galleria mall. Dr. Leslie Draper did my exam and answered all of my questions. She explained everything so well. It was a joy to work with her. Marcos help me with my lenses and he was also extremely knowledgeable and so friendly also. The whole experience was such a joy and took a total of 45 minutes. What I learned: 1. There is newer technology and they do not need to dilate your eyes. They can take pictures with a retinal camera, which I believe is called oculus. That was really cool to see! Plus who wants to get their eyes dilated if they don’t have to. I believe they said it was 80% more effective catching things than their traditional way. Best 40 bucks I’ve spent in a while. 2. Eyes can get freckles, I have one, but it’s nothing to worry about. 3. This I already knew, but I will state it alway. Always wear polarized sunglasses. Especially in South Florida. Not doing so will harm your eyes. You may not notice it when you’re younger but you will when you are older. It is so important. They will even check your sunglasses to make sure they are polarized, and how well the polarization on them is. DON’T slack in this. 4. Sun damage to the eye can cause wrinkling in inside of the eye which can eventually become an issue, depending on location. All the more reason to wear your polarized sunglasses, always. 5. I only need to wear 1.25 while reading. Out of curiosity I asked what the difference was between drugstore readers, and ones I would get from them, and here is what I learned. When you’re being measured for glasses, part of what they are measuring is where your pupil lands on the lens and that has an effect on the construction of your lens. The drugstore readers are not lined up with your pupil like they should be. 6. A lot of blue light blocking glasses that are bought online or at a drugstore and not through a professional store often have zero blue light blocking capability. When they are made overseas with our no regulations, and then sold online in America, there is a lot of them out there that have no effect. They said a lot of times they check those (they can do that at the store also!) and there will be zero blocking in them. Pretty cool that they can check this inside their store. 7. The lenses I got I also found out when I picked up my glasses today not only block 100% of blue light but they also block, many other types of light, including fluorescent. This I did not know. 8. When wearing drugstore readers, they are usually plastic and no coating. This means there is a lot of light reflecting off of them, which is bad for your eyes. He said to think of it like using a magnifying glass to set paper on fire. That light is intensified, and being shot into our eyes. Not good. 9. I have a new lenses put into my old frames. They told me today when I pick them up that the lenses have a year warranty. If I scratch them they will replace them for only $40 which I thought was fantastic. 10. I found out I have extremely dry eyes. I had no idea. They have never bothered me. I’m not sure if they’ve been dry for a long time or just these past few weeks when I’ve been doing an extraordinarily large amount of reading of books and on my computer is because I am studying. I will be using hydrating eyedrops three times a day, and getting my eyes rechecked in January. Also, I will be making PRP (platelet rich plasma) drops for my eyes which is highly effective in treating dry eyes. When I told the doctor about this, she knows of this treatment protocol and loves it. So stamp of approval from the doctor on that. Hoping this information is helpful to some of you. I highly recommend these guys. Support local businesses!
