“I usually don't write reviews, but our experience with Jason Welch, owner of Blue Ocean Dermatology had to be shared. As boaters and ocean lovers, my husband and I started getting annual skin checks and consequently basal cell procedures ie., "scrape and burns," excisions with stitches, and Mohs procedures. Not aware of Jason at Blue Ocean Dermatology, we went to another local provider because they accepted our health insurance. We refer to them as the "Butcher's." With every basal cell removal, it was literally like being butchered. I could write a book about the horrific nightmare with each procedure, but that's not the point of this review. Fortunately, the "butcher shop" quit accepting our insurance. This led us to Jason Welch at Blue Ocean Dermatology. After meeting him and his staff, we felt like we won the lottery!! Although the real reason for this review is to let you know there is a huge difference in healthcare providers, I'll share only two examples. My husband had a Moh's procedure two years ago by the "butcher shop." They dug a deep hole in the top of his head the size of a golf ball with over 90 stitches. He had another basal cell carcinoma above his temple that needed to be removed. Understandably, he flat refused to let them butcher him again. This past February, I had two basil cell carcinomas on my shin. The "butcher shop" dug two massive holes in my leg, sent me home with grossly inadequate after care instructions and said see ya in 3 months. When I called with concern about pretty intense pain, major swelling and lack of any healing after 8 weeks, their instructions were to let it dry out. That's it. Of course, a thick scab formed. I wanted/needed another opinion so I went to see Jason Welch. Safe to say, he was horrified. He brought in his entire staff and showed them what not to do and immediately went to work on my leg. First, he debreeded the thick scabs, performed infrared and red light therapy, prescribed precautionary antibiotics and had me come back weekly for treatment. The healing began. What a relief!! We were so grateful and impressed with Jason and his staff, my husband finally agreed to let his office perform the Moh's procedure on his temple. They made a very small incision, and he healed within two weeks. Unbelievable!! You might think that just because Jason Welch and staff are the absolute BEST at all things skin care, his prices would be higher. Not the case at all! In fact he is much more reasonable than even the horrible "butcher shop." We learned the hard way, you do have a choice in skin care providers. With immense gratitude, we will forever be patients of Jason Welch!!“
