Let me tell you how I met Dr. Robert Fucigna of Advanced Ophthalmology in Greenwich. Five years ago I had cataract surgery performed by another doctor. Ten days after the surgery, on a Saturday morning, I I had an accident that resulted in two pieces of wire embedded in my eye. I called the doctor that did my cataracts and he was on vacation. Dr. Fucigna wa covering for him. I called Dr. Fucigna and was able to reach him at his home. I told him what happened and he said to be in his office in 30 minutes. He left his home and showed up at his office in sweatpants, t shirt and sandals. He performed surgery on my eye, removed the wire and gave me drops to heal the damage. He saved my eyesight. He is now my eye doctor. He tells his patients that if there is ever an emergency with their eyes not to go to the emergency room at the hospital. He has better equipment and he will be there for you. He is a very highly skilled doctor with and amazingly well equipped office and staff and he does perform Lasik surgery. His office is located at 1455 East Putnam Ave., Old Greenwich. (203) 348-7575. Dr. Fucigna has published articles in several peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals and presented his research at medical society meetings across the U.S. Topics have included laser treatment for farsightedness, ALK for nearsightedness, penetrating keratoplasty for astigmatism, and radial keratotomy (RK). Throughout his career, Dr. Fucigna has been awarded scientific grants to pursue research in such areas as blindness prevention. The grants are as follows: • Edward & Marianne Blaauw Fund - Grant in Aid of Research • Sigma Xi - The Scientific Research Society • Fight for Sight, Inc. - Prevent Blindness Student Fellowship
