Dec 3, 2023Updated reviewThe latest update that Handman Nate was non-compliant with responding to the court. Therefore, the Magistrate stepped in, and made a rulling in my favor. What started out as a fifteen hundred dollar deposit, has escalated to $1,845.00. Better still, since I don't have any confidence in him paying me back, I have the investigator from the Consumer Protection Agency working with me. So I was told to file another complaint to the State, I would get paid back twenty eight weeks later, and Handyman Nate James will have to pay back the state. If not, he will be arrested and loose his license. Aug 19, 2023Previous reviewThis matter has been escalated to the attorney general for review. The better business contacted me and made me aware of this. The matter is now in the hands of the attorney general, and the next step is his arrest. And another lie is that his business isn't located in New Britain as he claims.Read more Jul 6, 2023Previous reviewEXTORTION! IN BREACH OF CONTRACT! I discovered Nate James through the Better Business Bureau, so only some of his reviews are factual. I found him to be headstrong and argumentative. He would get irate if he didn't get his way with his ideas. He also doesn't know when it comes to color coordination; he doesn't have an eye for color. I tested his skills, and he failed; I'm an artist. I have known my way around the color wheel since grade school. He would make crazy suggestions like putting a chandelier in the hallway by the bedroom door. I'm tall, so that wasn't an option. What started as 1) $3,000 turned into $3,500, which I was unaware of. 2) He demanded half down to start with, then upon completion of the projects. I told him the money would take 3-4 business days to be transferred from my financial institution. He didn't understand that, got hot-headed, and couldn't start when he wanted to. He could be a more understanding individual. I had to postpone the projects, and he said he would see me the following month. 3) He still needs to start the job; today, his electrician was supposed to install recessed lights for me. He is friendly. 4) Nate had the nerve to demand the rest of the balance before he would come over today, an additional $1,000. Can you say extortion? 5) I reminded him that the contract clearly states that full payment would be required when 95% on completion. 6) I paid $1,500 as a deposit and would come over when the remaining balance was paid that day they were supposed to install my recessed lights. That day he was supposed to start the job, he demanded more money. Our personalities clashed, and I told him today that I wanted my $1,500 refunded to me, but he refused. He has entitlement issues and is very much like a spoiled child. If he doesn't get his way, he throws a tantrum. I am curious to know how he stays in business; he could be more professional. I can't recommend him. He thinks I'm bluffing when I said I would take him to small claims court. They emailed me the paperwork to fill out. He kept on revising the contract and lost the job. He needs more professional ethics as well. His contract is poorly written when he can't spell "hallway" correctly. The only business that he's in is to lie to people and screw them over! I have no recourse but to take him to court. If you have had the same experience, please get in touch with me here. Thank you.
