I am a perennial gardener in East Haven near the Long Island Sound. I moved to a small house here from Cheshire after my wife passed away. I have always been a perennial and flowering shrub and tree gardener. Because I bought a small house I decided not to use sod or grass. Instead I created garden spaces with perennials and flowering shrubs and flowering trees. The garden spaces are surrounded with mulch which help to keep the roots moist. When I lived in Cheshire I had a beautiful koi pond with a waterfall to give it a beautiful sound. But here in East Haven if I installed a koi pond, the sea birds would eat them all!
