If you want your best possible hair, just stop reading and make the appointment. You will not regret it, I promise. But since you’re still reading and need more, let me count the many ways I love Mateo: 1. (Boring reasons) Great location, private parking lot, beautiful interior, queer and inclusive environment. 2. (Unusual extras) Instagram worthy wall to take pictures (which you want to take because you’ll look amazing), crazy level of individual attention (you’re treated like a star), with no product or up sale pressure selling (but still available if wanted). 3. (Rave worthy) best cut and color of my life - (as a woman that has had great color and cuts in various cities all over the US). I got my medium brown hair dyed black with bright blue highlights throughout. I get stopped all the time with compliments on my hair, the color is that gorgeous. It stays vibrant the whole time between appointments - no fading or washed out look. It even grows out softly blended without the hard line at the roots you can get with such an extreme color difference like black hair and lighter brown roots. Separately, the cut is also amazing. I’ve had really flattering cuts before but this cut *always* falls perfectly. Messy bun, bed head, whatever, somehow my hair looks great with NO effort. I don’t curl it, blow dry it, nothing. I’m way too lazy for any of that but I don’t look it! Even beyond those services, during my second appointment when I mentioned I had eight foundations of all the wrong color and was frustrated, he offered a makeup rescue. He went through my makeup and helped me find the perfect shade with what I already owned but hadn’t mixed. He also helped with what was just not going to work for me. My best friend said after the last three visits (cut, cut and color, cut color and makeup) I look years younger and meant it! There’s no 45 year old woman alive that doesn’t want to hear that, especially from their oldest friend with the most honest and vocal opinions. Worth every penny. 4. (Why are you not already making your appointment??!! What more could you want??) Mateo is too classy to brag and name drop but if you ask nicely, he is very generous with awesome, kind personal stories of the many famous people he has styled in his amazing career that you will definitely recognize in many of his salon photos. “Is that actually….?” Yes. It is. 5. (You shouldn’t even need this but it still must be said) I have never enjoyed the salon experience - being either a “mean girl” environment or, in best case scenarios, I was still very anxious about if I’d actually like the cut and the amount of time it takes and the number of strangers and the noise of a typical busy salon. I look forward to appointments with Mateo and leave feeling better than when I arrived and looking amazing, every single time. Even more, my teenage boy said the same thing, high praise indeed! I feel like we accidentally got the secret handshake to the best salon ever and while I don’t want to share my amazing find with anyone, artistry like his needs to be celebrated!! I know this is a very long review, but he’s really just that good.
