The Strasburg Vet is our family's only choice for all of our pets and it should be yours too. They are very knowledgeable, kind and make taking care of your pets affordable but there is something more important... We had to put down one of our pets recently and they were very helpful during this tough time. What really sets them apart though was the unexpected HAND SIGNED card from the entire staff. It really meant a lot.
Was forwarded here by an understaffed clinic. They’d said this location had an after hours emergency line. The woman returned my call within ten minutes at something like 3AM on a Saturday. She was exceptionally kind and patient as I tried to articulate a very stressful medical complication with my pet. I suspect that she knew that my dude was too far gone, and I appreciate her calmness in directing me to 24/7 clinics.I’m new to the area and was struggling to find anyplace to go. Am beyond grateful for their help.
First, let me start off by saying that this is one of the hardest reviews I've ever written. It took me awhile to be able to, but it's one I hope helps another in there most desperate of times. We live in Colorado Springs. There are many veterinary clinics, hospitals, and vets between here and there that are great I'm sure. Having said that, we found ourselves in a unique situation with one of our senior dogs. Our first encounter with Strasburg Veterinary Clinic was when we initially moved here. Our pups were not established yet with a vet, but our 15 year old Australian Shepherd who has CHF came down with a terrible case of kennel cough. He was not doing well at all and after two nights of staying up with him and still unable to get him into a vet the third day, we were desperate. (The pandemic didn't help as all vet hospitals were taxed) A friend of ours told us that she was sure her vet would see him and gave us their information. We called and they said to bring him right over. We were so thankful and felt the hour and a half drive was worth it if he could get help asap. They did a complete work up on him, gave him medication, and that night he was able to finally rest. We were so very thankful for his comfort!! We tried establishing him at a couple more vets here in COS, but wasn't completely thrilled with the "he's just an old dog" mentality. So when we needed help managing his CHF, we took him back to Strasburg Veterinarian Clinic. They helped ease our minds that he could be comfortable and have a good quality of life through management and helped us ensure that for him. Fast forward through him moving my daughter into her first home, being the Best Dog at her wedding, helping her through her first Christmas and Thanksgiving in her new home and several more important moments of life that he made sure to be there for... we woke up one November morning and found him in a great deal of pain, unable to move much or get comfortable. We knew something wasn't right, so we called SVC and they got us right in. When we got there, they took us directly back to a private room where they did X-rays and other tests to see how he could best be helped. They came back and delivered some of the hardest news we've ever had to receive in the most compassionate way that I've ever experienced. I will forever be thankful for their help in ensuring that Durango's last couple years of life were comfortable and his last hours of life were filled with love, peace, and were without pain. Katie, was amazing. She sat with us and helped us get through this most difficult time. He didn't have control of his bowels or bladder but we had no idea, she kept him covered and cleaned up. They gave us as much time as we needed to face time all the family that was out of state so that everyone could say their farewells and shared in the laughs as we reminisced about his life. They made beautiful paw and nose prints for us to go home with and delivered clay paw prints that will stay on my daughter's mantle forever. I've had to say goodbye to many fur babies, each time I think it will be our last because it seems to break me. But this time was the most beautiful, peaceful, while also being the hardest of them all. I will forever be grateful to this clinic and their staff for taking care of our beloved Durango while also taking care of us during the most difficult moments of all of our lives.
