I've been a patient of Dr. Chuang since my teenage years for acne and facial redness. Overall, I'm satisfied with my experience with him over the three years I've been visiting his office. While he is very knowledgeable in diagnosing conditions and is great at explaining complicated concepts using analogies that can be understood by the average layperson, he is overly conservative (careful) in providing treatment, at least with energy-based devices (laser). If you choose to do any cosmetic laser treatment with him, you will probably need more than the 4-6 recommended sessions, and still, you may not see the end result you want. They set my 2nd appointment weeks in advance. I received a bill 3 days beforehand and planned on paying upon my next paycheck, 3 days after my apt. I get to my appointment at 7:45 am and then they tell me that because I have an outstanding invoice (ie. the invoice I just received) they wouldn't be able to treat me. Why didn't they alert me by phone ahead of the appointment instead of making me get up early and drive all the way to their office. I understand trying to encourage timely payments but this is extreme. Never in my life have I been refused treatment by a doctor, particularly after receiving such short notification.

The doctor seemed very knowledgeable and I'm sure does good work. The disappointing piece is their front office. I felt so turned off by them - the way they communicated, their lack of customer service and overall negativity, that I'm actually not going to go back. The manager knew that I was upset and chose to stay in the room with the doctor so that I didn't complain about her and the other front desk staff. It was unbelievable. Now I have to find someone else. There are a million dermatologists in LA. Go to someone who makes you feel good!
