I was on vacation (from Iowa) in Santa Monica when I started coughing up blood. I went to the ER at UCLA in Santa Monica where I was diagnosed with multiple blood clots in both of my lungs. My condition became critical when I was moved to the ICU where I spent 3 weeks of my time up there. I was intubated for 8 days. During that time I had extensive pulmonary bleeding, a brain bleed, E. coli in my lungs, and bilateral DVTs. I had several scopes, and IR procedures done to stop the bleeding. After several days of being stabilized, I was finally able to be moved back to the floor, and eventually discharged. I just wanted to thank all of the doctor’s, nurses , and staff for all of their excellent care during my stay there. If it weren’t for them, I would not be here today. I have stayed twice in this hospital. The first time I was in for 2 days. This last time I was in for 5 days. This last time I had an eleven hour back surgery. From the time I got to the hospital until the day I was discharged I got excellent care. The nurses, doctors and my care partners all made me feel cared for, they listened and I felt safe. The three hour trip was worth it.
