Not to mention the expensive tax filing fees here, I made a mistake when I filled out the tax return form last year. When I made an appointment, I always came to Heren as an excuse to be busy with other people’s affairs. .The problem that shouldn't have arisen still made me pay more for taxes and fees.

I've been coming here for years because my accountant, Denise, appeared to be sharp and knowledgeable during our past interactions. However, she is not the type of accountant that will provide much tax saving advice or inform accounting rule changes unless you proactively bring up pointed questions for discussion. This year, I went through the same drill organizing and dropping off all my tax support documents at the office. When I came back the second time to pay and pick up my docs, I realized that one of my side income wasn't properly captured anywhere so I brought it up to staff and Denise. I understand mistake happens, so I didn't give anyone any hard time although an hour of my time was wasted. When I came back later to pick up my "final" copy of tax return, I was hit with an additional $35 apparently according to an elderly staff, I didn't provide the support of side income during my initial visit. I clarified that the tax support was attached with everything else so I didn't agree to an additional charge, but it was the last straw when the staff insisted that Denise couldn't be wrong because "she is very sensitive to these stuff, and she made a mark on each support doc as she input". I'm sorry, mam, but I'm an auditor myself and I'm also very sensitive to these stuff. This is why I caught the omission of side income in the first place. The fact that this firm wasted client's time, didn't own up its mistake, and tried their best to squeeze the last drip of profit in a condescending manner without providing much value didn't leave a very good taste in my mouth. I honestly and calmly shared with the staff that I won't return for tax filing next year.A lot of people choose to go to tax firms as opposed to filing taxes themselves because they are lazy (let's be honest here) and want to depend on someone for maximum tax savings and accurate tax filings. If I have to research tax matters and carefully examine your work myself each time, I'm pretty much paying for an overpriced data entry service here.

This review is mainly about her office staff. Rude and unprofessional. I called with questions about how to file taxes and the process. Without answering all my questions and concerns, the office staff hung up on me!Because of the pandemic, her office doesn't even do virtual or phone appointments. I tried to ask for clarification from her staff. They were rude and condescending. I told them that their website has some security issues. On Chrome, whenever I try to access their website, I get a warning that says "Your connection is not private. Attackers might be trying to steal your information from 1040taxfirm.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards)."I warned their office staff that they might want to look into it. The staff rudely told me that their website has no issue. Well, not on my screen. Because of that, I am hesitant to submit my files with them and I suggested they look into it so they won't deter other potential clients. I politely said it might be an issue worth looking into. The staff got more and more annoyed at me and told me to just mail in my tax forms then if the website doesn't work. Before I can ask my next question, the staff hung up on me. Denise has usually been my tax person the last several years. Don't get me wrong. Denise has been nice and helpful with answering my questions, but she doesn't seem to really help me maximize my returns. For the last several years, I've owed taxes. After this whole incident with the staff, I decided to take my business elsewhere. Not much has changed since, but my new accountant got me a tax refund! There's also some services I'm interested in that 1040 Tax Firm doesn't offer. Will I come back to 1040 Tax Firm? Maybe. Their price is reasonable. But only as long as I don't have to deal with the office staff.
