Cozy, clean little shop! The man working there was super nice, and put me onto a couple new albums pressed by the Stranded Label! Can't wait to revisit next time I'm in SF :)
My trip to San Francisco last month took on Jobean proportions. First, I arrived two weeks later than planned because I contracted Covid. Then, the day after I finally arrived, I rolled my ankle stepping off a curb and it swelled to the size of a baseball. I then spent the next four days in bed with my ankle propped up, barely able to move. Record fiend that I am, I dispatched my wonderful boyfriend to Stranded to peruse on my behalf. He's also a music nerd, so I trust his taste. He came back with two grails: an incredible copy of The Fall's "Hex Enduction Hour" (Ever watch "The Silence of the Lambs"? Do you remember the song playing as Clarice was fumbling around in Buffalo Bill's basement? No, because you were too freaked out? The track is "Hip Priest" from that album. Yes, you should rewatch that scene!) and a sealed copy of a prime 2012 reissue of Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works Volume II." My jaw dropped when he showed me what he had bought. (Did I mention my boyfriend is beautiful, too? It only took me 41 years to find him!) Docking one star due to pricing. Sometimes what Stranded charges is...ambitious. I'd grumble more if the stock weren't so legit. I think the SF location is better than the one in New York. Dirty secret: Record shopping in SF is far better than in NYC. Sacrilege, I know, but it's true!
Loved my first visit. Brace yourself for a highly curated record shop experience, heavy influence on foreign music, and a very eclectic organization. Be paired to devote a bit of quality time, you won't regret it.
