Definitely recommend Carlo for those looking for a great professional! I am always very satisfied with the accuracy and speed of the service. Also the conversation is good and he always remembers exactly how I like my hair cut. Great atmosphere as well, coffee is great, bathroom is clean. Parking is actually pretty good too.
Haircuts and teeth cleaning-- two of my least favorite, but necessary, life appointments. More on than that later, maybe on another platform... I was looking for a new hair stylist and I think I found him! After reading some reviews, I booked a cut with Irish Paul at People's Barber on Polk. Upon arrival and introductions, he made me feel comfortable right away, like a long-time friend. "I need a clean up on the sides and in the back, but I want to keep the length on top," I told Paul. (Easy instructions that so many other stylists didn't follow.) Irish Paul said something about a mullet and we agreed--that wasn't a good look for me. I showed him a photo, just for reference. He took a quick look, smiled and said something about a "school boy" look. He also told me that he's a barber, not a stylist. I knew then that Paul not only has a keen sense of hairstyles, but also a keen sense of humor. We had great conversation, including Dublin's Temple Bar, San Francisco history, local politics and how the homeless have changed. I wondered the whole time while talking how much hair cutting he was actually doing. He told me that sentiment was common among his clients....Just 20 minutes later, I got a wash, a hot towel and a small touchup around the ears. Paul said there was a Peter O'Toole circa Lawrence of Arabia vibe happening and nothing else needed to be done. Scissors down. The mirror agreed. I was so happy with my cut that I created a cocktail a few days later named the "Irish Paul" (Irish whiskey, Antica, Génépy, Orange Bitters). I threw on "Johnny the Fox" side A to celebrate. Two BIG thumbs up for Irish Paul, my new favorite barber.
Irish Paul is the man. I've been seeing him for a while now and every cut is on point--clean, consistent, and exactly what I want. Plus, the guy's hilarious and friendly. Always a good time in his chair. People's Barber has a relaxed vibe, solid music, and they'll usually hand you a drink while you wait. It's the kind of spot you actually look forward to going to.
