The staff were really good at explaining what to do and where to go. The technician was extremely reassuring and friendly. I could not have asked for a better first mammogram experience.
I really have no complaints, other than the incredibly steep street to get here. Not relevant, but the art on the walls is pretty sad. First thing, you enter a lovely large seating area that nobody is ever sitting in. The sign outside the entrance says to check in at the desk. I've been here several times & either there's nobody on the desk, or you are completely ignored. On to the elevators, they could use some signage here. I just keep walking down the hall to an area with a bunch of doors, & a couple have buttons arrow up or down. Gotta be the elevators. Off the elevators the signs are pretty easy to read- left to somewhere else- right to a walk halfway to the other side. My destination was the 2nd floor mamo center. In the door there is a checking desk straight ahead, you stand there, then a woman calls you to a smaller desk behind you to check you in see if you're in the right place. She tells you to have your insurance card & ID ready. Then back to the 3-4 person check-in desk where friendly women will not ask you for ID or insurance card. You will be given a tablet to answer questions to see if anything has changed since your last visit. Then you sit in the clean waiting room for a technician to explain how to work the lockers for your clothes, & give you a nice spa robe. The locker instructions are on each locker & it still took me 4 tries. That says more about me than the lockers. Then you wait some more on your robe until a technician calls you into the X-ray room. Yes, the same horrible cold machine that squishes your breast to pancakes. Practice holding your breath, it takes a moment. Gotta say, for a woman who does the same thing all day, she was friendly & pleasant. I'm sure she's heard the same jokes over & over. My usual rant is that this machine was clearly invented by men. At least the whole experience is pretty fast. Then you wait some more while some mystery doctor interprets the X-rays. I suggest you bring a book or your phone as there's nothing else to look at while waiting. Leaving the hospital I recommend you turn left instead of right to check out the small sculpture area. Took me several visits before I noticed it.
