About Avenues Pet Hospital

Avenues Pet Hospital is an exceptional establishment, praised for its outstanding staff, including the reception, billing, and medical teams. The hospital is known for providing excellent medicine, top-notch surgery, and exceptional care. Clients appreciate the friendly, intelligent, and caring atmosphere, with many considering it like a family. The community is also very kind, making it a welcoming destination for pet owners. Clients have noted that while it can take some time to be seen for non-urgent appointments, such as the first new client visit and annual exams, their pets are usually seen quickly for any urgent needs. The hospital has adapted to safety measures, allowing clients to wait inside and accompany their pets during appointments. Many have praised the vets for their kindness and honest assessments, while the front desk staff is often described as helpful. Although some reviews mention varying levels of warmth among staff, it is acknowledged that the busy environment may contribute to this perception. Avenues Pet Hospital is particularly recommended for bulldog owners, as they have a strong reputation for caring for this breed. One client shared their positive experiences with both an older bulldog and a new French bulldog, emphasizing the hospital's expertise in handling bully breeds and the quality of care received during surgeries. Additionally, clients suggest checking for more affordable medication options through pharmacies like Chewy or Costco, which the hospital is willing to accommodate. Overall, Avenues Pet Hospital continues to be a trusted choice for pet owners seeking quality veterinary care.

My dog has been in the care of Avenues Pet Hospital for 3 years now. It can sometimes take a while to be seen for non-urgent stuff, such as the very first new client appointment and the annual exam, but otherwise my dog gets seen quite quickly as things come up (usually within a few days, and via email or phone when I have concerns but am not sure if they are worth an appointment). They did not allow people inside for a long while due to Covid safety restrictions, but we can now go inside to wait in the waiting room, and accompany our pets during their appointment. It seems silly for other reviews to complain about this when it was for a valid reason and not an arbitrary policy. The only times I can't accompany my dog is when he comes in for his regular nail trim and gland expression as an out-patient - this is done in the back where pet owners aren't allowed. FYI I get his nails done at the vet bc he has particularly long blood vessels / quicks in his nails, so I feel safer about it being done here, even though it's a roughly-done trim and I file them smooth at home. The vets are kind and I always feel like I'm getting their honest assessment. Front desk is also always very helpful. For reviews that mention they're rude - it can depend on the person tbh, but if anything I think some can be less warm than others, and I would *not* say at all that they've ever been rude. I think they're really busy nonstop and are doing their best to get through patients in an efficient manner -- and that can sometimes be interpreted as being a little cold, when really it's just being neutral. As a society we tend to think women are "cold" when they're not overly warm and are otherwise just being normal & neutral, yet don't think that of men doing the same. So let's check our gender bias, alright? One word of advice that I learned the hard way - most medications are substantially cheaper at Chewy or Costco, so ask them to send out the prescription! The vet office has zero problem doing that and it's never awkward. It's not a perfect system since Costco doesn't have everything, and Chewy takes some days for delivery (i.e., doesn't work for meds needed the same day). I don't say this as a knock against the hospital, as I think this is common practice for vets and helps keep the lights on. I instead say this as a heads up, because I didn't know this for the longest time.

Do you own a Bulldog? Yes? Great, then meet your new vet. We have had three bulldogs now and APH has cared for them brilliantly. My 13 year old EB was taken care of brilliantly, she had two ACL/TPLO done there and the quality of care was amazing. We now have a new Frenchie and we travel from the East Bay to Avenues because their knowledge of the bully breeds is second to none.

I hesitate to write this rave review but I must, Avenues is all around the best vet hospital. And with 2 frenchies, we’ve met most every other well regarded vets :)

Both front office and back office match the caliber of Schwach. The best!
