VA Medical Center-San Diego: Bowlus Lee MD

Took my Father to his Dr appointment. It's been a long time since I was last here when he had a surgery. I was grateful they were successful last time performing a rare procedure and saving his eye. Its nice to see have been many improvements with the facilities. The staff was very kind. The only thing is there is a wait for each step of an appointment. We were there for at least 2 1/2 hours. It would be nice to see more volunteers helping the veterans find what location their appointment is at, etc. as I witnessed a few veterans lost or sitting a long time but couldn't hear their name being called. My great friend has been in Behavior ward months since April far too long. Should of been moved out. The staff is good but the patients are really there to die. My last visit a nurse named Jamie she came flying out the nurses station door to raise her voice at me and with no respect to my friend who is black and Dying to tell me the bottle Gatorade belong to someone else, my friend was totally dehydrated and need liquid she did bring a cup of water. Then proceeded to tell me i was not allowed in that drawer when for months i was told to keep the peanut butter cups i bring to him in that drawer. Well this is a first for me, I have never rated the VA hospital below 5 stars. But this time is a bit different, first off they have done away with the valet parking where you used to be able to get your ride up to the door from the huge parking lot. Now you have to walk across the parking lot and call someone to come get you. This, for some of us, is very difficult. And makes it harder to make it to our appointments on time. I have a knee that has a tendency to give out on me as well as a bad back and short on breath so by the time I make it across the parking lot I am tired.
