One of the most wonderful things that happened to me last year when I came back to SD after 8 years was to find out that at my work campus was a farm and every Monday there is a stand for the employees in Campus Point with vegetables from such farm (The Green Acre restaurant sources from them). I found out that California Farm and Garden (formerly Urban Plantations, that I knew from before I left) was behind the operations. I can only comment on the corporate farm that I have mentioned and all is fantastic. From the super cool young farmer girls and my favorite guy, always teaching us how to compost or what varieties of vegetables they grow with smiles and dedication, to the bounty we get every week. The farm is beautiful and well tended and everyone can have a picnic, see the farmers in action (working in the field) and admire the flowers. We get to take from mini bouquets home too! Hats off for this wonderful design and management and the effort everyone put to make everyone happier and healthier.

Our friends nearby recommended we check out California Farm and Garden after we saw the fantastic job they did with their yard. You want big avocados? Cucumbers and zucchini for days? We were the beneficiaries of that. :D I have no skills when it comes to keeping plants alive, but really wanted to start growing my own food, especially considering we're now in 'victory garden' times. We worked with their incredibly knowledgeable team to come up with a plan, which they executed flawlessly. We now have two stunning raised beds filled with goodness, an herb garden, and some citrus plants. YAY! The people at California Farm and Garden are kind, knowledgeable, and hard working. We can wait to work with them again.

It's been two months since Urban Plantations designed, constructed, and planted a backyard vegetable and herb garden for me. After ten years, my home-built garden boxes and irrigation was falling apart; my garden soil was old and my harvests smaller every year. I asked for three high garden boxes (30") approximately 2' x 8', so I wouldn't have to bend down so much. Additionally, I wanted a ground-level bed about 2' x 16' rejuvenated. Paige from Urban Plantations came to my home, listened to what I wanted, explained how Urban Plantations works, and subsequently emailed me three different designs with detailed quotes. Over several email exchanges, we modified some of the specs and agreed on a final design. Urban Plantations scheduled five days for the work. Dean showed up the first day to demo my existing boxes and took back the wood to reuse in new boxes. The following four days, Dean and several other workers showed up, always on schedule, and worked steadily and expertly to install the irrigation, the boxes, the soil mix, and the vegetables. Dean, Paige, and others advised me about some of my existing plants and even trimmed my trees and native shrubs. The workers were always friendly and offered me numerous gardening tips. Everything was completely cleaned up. Dean returned two weeks after completion to check the plantings and irrigation, and to make a few updates. Now, two months since the work, we have been harvesting large quantities of lettuce, spinach, arugula, mizuna and various herbs every day. Absolutely delicious. The carrots and strawberries planted by Urban Plantation are starting to mature, and I am looking forward to more delicious produce every day. I just planted some summer vegetables during the past week and am hoping for a great harvest soon. Not only is my garden very functional now, it is aesthetically pleasing as well and I've enjoyed showing it off to friends and fellow gardeners. The work from Urban Plantations exceeded my expectations and it's turned out to be a great addition to my home.
