A very family-oriented martial arts studio. Kids and adults all train here. Kajukenbo martial arts is taught here, which essentially is a hybrid of several martial arts styles (karate, judo/jujitsu, kenpo karate, boxing). In addition to those, there are dedicated kickboxing/Muay Thai classes, and periodically Filipino stick fighting. Studio is big with workout mats in excellent condition. The owner and head instructor Sigung Esther Molina is fantastic at what she does - she cares for her students but still doesn't go easy on us to make sure we do things correctly and with intention. There is a 2-week free trial for those interested. It's a great workout for someone like...read full review
I wish I had known the correct questions to ask when I first introduced my family to the world of martial arts. I wish I had known the correct questions to ask when I first introduced my family to the world of martial arts. In the early years of my family's journey we realized that some schools regularly advance belts during school "tests." Other schools teach techniques that are not applicable to real world situations. Confidence and conditioning, practical self-defense skills, respect for oneself and all others - these are only a few things out of many that I had wanted for my 2 young children and myself to learn. After several years at different martial arts schools I found a home at Kokua Martial Arts. My kids have been actively training with Master Molina for 5 years and I am more than impressed with the results. Their confidence has allowed them to excel in school as well as shine in social settings. Martial arts competitions against other schools are optional but what better way to "test" what you've been learning. Bringing a high-level of tournament experience, Kokua's instructors have taught my kids to become Grand Champions in both kata and sparring, often winning against bigger, more intimidating opponents. My oldest is 13-1/2 years now and while his kicks and punches are no joke, he's also maturing into a very respectful young man. At Kokua Martial Arts Fitness Academy, you learn kajukenbo, a mixed martial arts style that encompasses multiple opponent punch and kick striking as well as jiu jitsu floor grappling. During COVID-19 Shelter-in-place, Kokua has taken to online Zoom leaning. Surprisingly, this has worked out and I see my kids drenched in sweat by the end of their lesson. I look forward to the upcoming training at the park. This will introduce an advanced element to training as well as allow the students to enjoy more social interaction, socially distanced of course. If you are looking for a proper introduction to martial arts or if you're not happy with what you are getting out of your current school then I highly recommend this school. Five Stars for sure!!!
