Much overdue review. The salon is clean, cute and quaint. However, this review is not for the salon but for the hair stylist. Petaluma and surrounding areas are small, it's hard to find good stylists bc the competition is low in comparison to the actual Bay Area cities. This is why I regretfully came back for bad service also bc I only got haircuts ever 4-6 months. I was going to get haircuts from Nicole and I put up with a lot up unprofessionalism. She always seemed to have a bad attitude and was complaining, and was rough combing my hair. I explained my scalp was sensitive and I was losing my hair bc of health issues and to be gentle. Message was not received and she was very rough. A few times she smelled like cigarettes but I let it go--bc I'm more focused on service and my haircut. But it was not pleasant. She seemed to not want to be there or like her job. You don't want a person who gives that vibe cutting your hair because it's pretty personal experience when you think about it. No matter what treatment I always paid and left tip although feeling like I was making someone do me a favor. The last straw was when I drove in Novato traffic for my appointment, and waited in the salon for an 1.5 hrs. Only to find out much later she wasn't coming. 20 minutes in I asked the other hairstylist where she was he said he didn't know. He didn't try calling her or the owner. I asked her at my next appointment (I rescheduled the missed one) and she said she was in the ER. I'm not sure if it's the truth but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. I totally emphasize with someone needing to take care of their health. However there are many professional steps that could have been taken--the other hair stylist could have called her or the owner -- or her significant other or herself could have called/texted the salon and let them know to cancel her appointments for the day. If that wasn't possible bc her condition was so bad, even the next day or next few days there could have been communication about this, this how client relationships are maintained. And overall the booking, confirmation and cancellation needs to be more professional. And the other hairstylist should have other hairstylist's backs-- a team player mentality.
Finding Candice, the owner of Heart & Soul, was like striking gold in the hair care department. She has expertly cut and colored my hair for 5+ years now. When I get blow outs at other locations (I travel a long way to get to Candice) the stylists repeatedly tell me how great my color is. If all of the above isn’t enough, she is a fantastic person - warm, funny, interesting, and wise beyond her years.
Honestly, I would like to give this salon a no star if there was a choice to do so. It's not mainly on the salon itself but the hair stylists, lack of professionalism. I had scheduled an appointment with Gabriela, first she didn't even send me a confirmation text a day prior my appointment. I had to send her a text to send me the details of her location. She doesn't reply until late at night. Second, on the day of, I woke up super early to make it on time since I live in Palo Alto. As I'm driving she sends me a text she can't make it. She could of told me a day before, nothing, my morning was wasted. So I asked her to reschedule since I had a baby shower to go too and would want my hair done before then. She confirmed for Tuesday for the following week. Tuesday arrives, I sent her a text again confirming if we were good to meet. I get off work and drove to Petaluma, again I arrive and she literally texts me she can't make it AGAIN!! Whattt! What kind of professionalism is that??!? Inconsiderate on her end that she has to know not all of her clients live in Petaluma. I wasted my time, gas, traffic, bridge money, mileage for her to simply say she can't make it. Look I understand we all have personal things outside of work but if you have clients and you know you have appointments you have to COMMUNICATE!!!! Do not wait until the day of. She's so unreliable and honestly I've never seen someone in this industry who's lack of professionalism is so low. I will never book again with her.
