The Stanford Center for Academic Medicine is the newest building to be finished as part of the global rebuild of the Stanford Hospital / Packard Children's Hospital renewal. It is part of a multi billion dollar effort to expand and update the campus. Lane, the building housing the medical school is not seismically sound and will have to be rebuilt. As such this is one of the first building to be finished with the goal of relocating staff. Completed recently this 4 story, 170,000 sq foot structure also has underground parking, fitness, and a cafe on site. The architecture follows a similar pattern of other new buildings with extensive blending of landscaping, glass, and geometric forms. There are elevated walkways linking the buildings that form an almost U shape. The design choices blend in nicely with the Eucalyptus grove it borders. There are tons of benches and tables to stop and take a break. In addition the co-located Cafe Arbor is an excellent choice for lunch. Its hours are limited to M-F till about 2 at this time. It is also close to tons of attractions like the Arizona Cactus Garden and the Cantor Art Museum.
