I went there to fix a chip on my front tooth. Had no dental insurance, and paid cash. Money was an issue, and made sure to get the price from the receptionist when I arrived at the appointment before proceeding. Had already gotten a quote when I made the appointment over the phone, but I always double check. It was just under $400.00 back then, and it was highway robbery; having had it replaced several times, I can tell you that I paid $100.00 everywhere else. I was unhappy with the dentist's attitude and her crappie work ( the repair only lasted a year) but to add insult to injury was receiving the phone call from the receptionist shortly after my arrival at my house that they wanted more money!!! They will be waiting a long time for another penny and I made that perfectly clear.
This place and Dr. Mehta might actually be the worst dental facility and dentist in the state of CA. My first clue should have been when the clinic and the DDS were listed on one of my insurances "find a provider" website but when I called I was told "well the actual doctor is new and he's not contracted with any insurance yet so it will have to be a self-pay visit". Fine. Whatever, I'm in pain. I show up for the appointment, we go through the whole situation again where I'm literally told "well we don't contract with this one insurance company but I have to bill them both". I'm no insurance specialist but why would you have to bill an insurance that you do not contract with? Fine, I will self-pay even though this totally looks and smells like a scam. An attendant comes to the door and is calling a name that nobody is responding to. He finally comes over and stands right in front of me and says "aren't you _____". Nope, I am not. He looks at his paper again and then says "oh - thats your middle name, you didn't realize that"? At this point - I should have turned and left. No dude. My middle name is as common as they come and why on earth would I think to respond to that? Got back into the chair and we go through a pretty lengthy medical history. Took 2 x-rays and assistant starts talking about a tooth that I'm not even there about. Dentist comes by and literally without a hello, an introduction or anything says "is your diabetes well controlled? If not, I'm not doing anything for you today - I need a medical release". Well okay then. I asked him to define well controlled and he does not explain his threshold just "you know....is it controlled"? Dr. then proceeds to talk about a root canal I need on that other tooth that I'm not concerned with at this time. I want to talk about the tooth that is causing me dire pain. Then he simply walks away. Assistant hands me a ghetto copy of a copy of what I guess is a referral card and hands me 2 documents to sign that are "releases". I asked him are these for Ampla to release info or for them to receive info. When he responded "I don't know"...my mind was made up. I handed him back the forms and said I don't need these because I'm not coming back here. Got up and went to the front office to pay for my nano-second appt with Dr. Craptastic. Waited for 15 minutes before I figured they have all my info. They can bill me. TL:DR: this place is a shit show and I wouldn't take my dog here.
My daughter had the worst experience with Ampla. Specifically With Theresa O'Hair, FNP. Their system for referring to specialists is nonsense. After experiencing a seizure, my kiddo could not get in to see a neurologist, an orthopedic, or any specialist to help with a seizure she experienced while at college. In addition she needed Ms. O'Hair to review paperwork from the DMV, and add her comments that the DMV requires, or her license would be revoked automatically. My daughter was not asking her to give clearance for her to drive, just fill out what she could. I took 2 days off from work, and booked a hotel so that I could attend the appointment. She would not sign a single thing!!! What a waste of time. I would not recommend going to this place no matter what. Oh, and we were able to get things taken care of in our home town, and my kiddo is doing very well.
