Shout out to The VA medial at Mather Field! Went to ER this morning early and was treated with respect and dignity. My needs were addressed and taken care. Special shout out to nurse practitioner, Aimee! As a Viet Nam veteran, we are fortunate to have a professional health care near!!
**UPDATE** My poor dad is still in the same emergency room for now well over 29 hours. Plus I called For an update. The nurse said the doctor would call to update me. That was six hours ago. Time to go to bed since it's after 9pm. Pathetic! ------------------------------------ I was not amazed by the level of service at this VA hospital. I kind of feel bad for the veterans. It's nice to see the veterans have a place to go but they should feel like they're getting the A+ service not the C or D service. Let's talk about the lack of communication. My dad's in home caregiver communicated with staff working under Doctor Boley at the VA. Per his orders, my dad was to be admitted to the VA hospital to get his illness corrected. We arrived at the emergency room and no one had a clue about the admission. No notes, NOTHING! So what does that mean? We are waiting in the emergency room. My poor dad has been at the emergency room since 5pm. No one offered him any food or drink. I had to ask them at 1am for some food for my dad. Matter of fact not even an offer of water. Sad right? Emergency Room doctor told my dad she would get him his pain medication while he waited to be admitted. She was off at 1am, come 230 am, the nurse came in and didn't even know about the pain medicine while my poor dad was trying to tough it out. Here we go again a lack of communication right? Fast forward 10 1/2 hours later, they finally told us he would be admitted. My poor dad. Plus by the time I got home which was 90 miles away, I was officially awake for 24 hours. Thank God I made it home safely. Yes I know being up that long was my problem but I was not going to abandon my dad in case this hospital decided to send him home. He is an amputee confined to a wheelchair. I'm not going to leave him stranded in his chair 90 miles from home. I'll suffer before he does. I was NOT impressed with the service the VA provided. This rating was based on the services provided. As for the staff, were they nice, yes. I'm just shocked at the lack of communication and empathy towards my dad.
‼Just for clarification I'm not a current or former member of the military‼ My son was in the military for four years. He is now a military veteran. I personally don't like how the VA takes so long for appointments. My son especially doesn't like either, I really don't blame him. The private sector of medical is much faster with caring for patients. The military has what's called a point system based on your health. Military determines whether or not you can paid medical by VA or not. I think it's right. I mean you give up your mental health, physical health as well as bodily injury and possible death for the military, they can at least give you medical without having to get body, mental health etc...percentages. Military should have the BEST medical one can get. I mean men and women are giving up a lot by serving our country. Wasn't for them we wouldn't have freedom and more. These men and women go into to the military young and have no idea what they're getting into mentally. They have to grow up much faster than they think. I pray that one day the government will care and take care of their service members. I personally don't have to join the military to know what these men and women go through. I was raised in military house. I have numerous family members who were in military, plus my son is a now veteran of the military. I've seen and see the effects it can do to one. I don't think there should be any homeless veterans at all. They all should have housing right out of service. And mandatory medical and mental health once they're discharged.
