The staff are amazing. While I was in the ER I noticed that people just kept coming well into the night all of them were seen and even people with very bad social pathologies were helped and treated with respect regardless of how badly they treated the staff. God bless the staff of this hospital.
I a black woman gave birth to 2 children here in the past 2 years. The first time was in 2022 2nd in 2024. Firstly, I was in labor my first time and brought my 8 year old who I had to find a sitter last minute. My SO was so worried he'd miss the birth of our baby. Luckily I found someone and he was out in 2 hours and I had my baby about an hour after that. So do not bring extra ppl especially kids. I think they said he had to be 10 or older or something so just lied like I wish I did had I known he couldn't stay! He was bummed and so were we. The staff was quite nice and the food was ok. The lunch lady was so sweet and she was sweet my second time around. Also the lady who delivered my food was a sweet lady. I gave birth vaginally after my first being a C-section. I felt like the doctor was trying to scare me into getting a c section which was weird. I tore and she sewed me up great. I left with a prescription of Tylenol and ibuprofen. I thought it'd be enough because it was my first vaginal birth and ppl told me it was less painful. The day after I started to feel worse down there. I was scared to do #2 because it hurt so bad. I remember crying from the pain as I also did with my second vaginal birth. I have stairs in my home and I remember it being dreadful. I went to my first checkup with my doctor and asked for stronger meds which she declined and told me I should've asked when I was in the hospital. I had abdominal and vaginal pain for 3 months. My second baby...the food was arse. Stuff I wanted they said they ran out of. The staff was very sweet again. I can't think of anyone that was kind of snobby or rude other than the doctor who delivered my first baby. My second baby I also tore and this time I made sure to ask for stronger meds, the doctor refused. I left with Tylenol and ibuprofen again which I still had PLENTY from my last birth. I've been taking pain medicine for years because I suffered from painful periods so these medicines do almost nothing for me however I took a few in the beginning afterbirth to help with any swelling. I don't recommend you give birth here if you need stronger medicine. I forgot to mention when I asked for stronger meds to leave with over and over it took a good 1.5 to try and convince the doctor and it didn't work. I still got nothing strong. The nurse was so sweet trying to fight on my behalf. They ended up giving me a lot of extra diapers and wipes to make up for not being able to give me stronger meds. I would've preferred the medicine not trying to be rude. Being in that kind of pain makes postpartum way worse. My first baby was delivered at TriCity in Vista and it was the best experience I ever had but that was in 2014. I have heard that the service in hospitals went down after Covid so I give Grace but dude give women stronger meds when they tear and get sewed back up!! It's painful!!!! Signed a black woman.
Orthopedic Program My husband recently had shoulder replacement surgery at Sharp Grossmont. We were very pleased with the level of care he received. The total joint replacement program is very well coordinated. This is the third time we have interacted with that surgical support team. Astrid, the orthopedic program manager, leads classes that are informative and cover a broad range of pre and post op scenarios facilitating proper preparation and expectations for post op care. She covered some things we hadn't considered and made it simple to get questions answered. We spoke with her on the phone after surgery when some questions arose and she was very helpful! We recommend the total joint replacement program at Grossmont. They care about the patient's holistic health and quality of life after surgery. I'll post a separate positive review for our surgeons at Grossmont Orthopaedic Dr. Pete Hanson (knees) and Dr. Ben Dubois (shoulder).
