Just looking around on google maps and saw this. Before my great grandmother died in 1952, she told my family if they buried her in the Joburg cemetery “she wouldn’t lay there!” ?
As a kid I liked reading all the “grave stones” some back in the 1800’s…tho I’m sure most of them are faded and gone since they were written on wood.
Oh….they buried my great grandmother elsewhere ? (somewhere in the LA area) but both my parents are buried right there in Johannesburg.

I stopped in Johannesburg, California on the way to attempt to hike Burro Schmidt's Tunnel about 20 miles from here. This is an old cemetery in a very old and somewhat run down community. I am guessing that many people have no idea who William Schmidt is but my knowledge of his tunnel and a little bit of research led me to this cemetery along 395. Next to Schmidt is Mrs. Seger's grave that brings the most interest. Not many people have their graves with bed frames on each side. There are many more unusual (eccentric) things in the cemetery but I was here for just this one area. If I'm in the area again, I'll take the time to look around at more of the graves. It's worth a stop if you're on your way to Ridgecrest or Trona from wherever.
