My wife and I used to train here, and Hunter is the heart of the place...a Midwest mountain man with incredible discipline and a ton of knowledge. You can see it in how he lives his life. Bravo, Hunter. Keep doing what you do.“

5643 Cahuenga Blvd, North Hollywood“I recently returned to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu after a hiatus of a few years, and I couldn't be happier with my decision to join Studio 93 in North Hollywood, California. Professor Gustavo runs a fantastic gym that's not only impeccably clean but also prioritizes individualized instruction.Having started just two months ago, I appreciate the careful attention Gustavo gives to each student. He takes the time to ensure everyone understands the techniques, providing plenty of one-on-one time. Safety is a top priority, and Gustavo's commitment to preventing injuries creates a positive training environment. If you're looking for a BJJ gym where you can learn, grow, and train safely, Studio 93 is the place to be. Gustavo's expertise and dedication make it an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced practitioners. Highly recommended!“

I'm also a veteran, and this gym is affiliated with Heroes Movement, which is a non-profit that pays for veterans membership.“

5524 Van Nuys Blvd, Sherman Oaks“As a parent, I believe there are two essential life skills every child must learn: swimming and self-defense. I came to KMA with the goal of teaching my kids how to protect themselves, but we've gained so much more from this experience. Not only have they learned self-defense, but they've also discovered how to become the best version of themselves. The improvement in their self-esteem and confidence has been incredible. The instructors are outstanding--professional, patient, and skilled at making each lesson fun yet challenging. They foster an environment of respect and discipline, teaching valuable life lessons alongside martial arts techniques. KMA feels like a second home for us. I loved it so much that I recently joined as well! If you're looking for a place that goes beyond technique, focusing on both mental and physical growth, KMA is the perfect choice for everyone in your family. We're proud to be part of this amazing community!“

10426 Burbank Blvd, North Hollywood“Fantastic classes and top notch instruction where you can learn real, applicable and effective self defense techniques in a controlled and ego-free environment. A rare find these days. I initially found combatives academy when searching for a Filipino martial arts school for knife/weapons defense and fighting. I figured I carry a knife so may as well learn how to use it. After just the first class I was shocked at how much I didn't know (in a good way). Sifu Raffi has a very calm, detailed and easy to follow way of teaching. He's also a very talented martial artist which was obvious to me after seeing just a few demonstrations of techniques. So many self defense situations involve a weapon even on one side. Knives, baseball bats etc. This art really covers a lot of things. I have previously trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.I asked about the Jeet Kune Do classes and the instructor recommended I take this, along with my Escrima classes to have a complete system as the hand to hand translates well over to the weapons. After the JKD class I took a few weeks later, I was very impressed with how complete of a martial art it was. In one class we covered some effective strikes as well as a few grappling moves. Each technique was shown in detail and we were given ample time to really practice it and get it right with a training partner. An all encompassing art like JKD is really what you need for self defense. It's also a fantastic workout along with stretching, etc. The JKD along with Escrima covers all the bases for me, effective striking, grappling, distance control plus weapons use and defense. I would highly recommend trying the 2 free classes if you're on the fence! Hopefully I'll try a Silat class in the future and can update my review with that aspect.“
“You want a great place for your children to learn... this is the place. Self confidence, self discipline, and discipline. GRAND MASTER and his staff are great.“

The instructors are not only highly skilled but also incredibly patient and dedicated to helping students succeed. The facility itself is clean, well-maintained, and provides a welcoming atmosphere for practitioners of all levels. The bathroom is very spacious and nice as well. The classes are structured efficiently, balancing rigorous training with a focus on technique and discipline. Overall, I couldn't be happier to join DK taekwondo. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner, I highly recommend this dojo for its outstanding instruction, friendly community, and commitment to excellence in Taekwondo training. One aspect that sets this dojo apart is the sense of community. Fellow students are friendly and supportive, creating a positive learning environment. The camaraderie among members fosters a sense of belonging, making every session enjoyable“

9745 Independence Ave, Chatsworth“LOVE. My 12yo son is just starting, was very nervous the first day, but they had him fitting right in. My son has social anxiety, but craves individual style physical challenges (climbing, parkour...). Hapkido has been a perfect fit. I thought it would be "too baby/too beginner" for him, as a 12yo, but even with younger kids in the beginner class, he didn't feel too old. They challenge them right away to step up to level, and he left practicing the moves for hours.“

Master Shawn holds his students to a high standard, and in this day and age, when expectations and standards are so lacking in our children's lives, I feel like Master Shawn and his crew are helping me parent.“

19643 Parthenia St, Northridge“Where do I began!!! (I never write reviews btw) Master Sam has been a true blessing I wish I found FKMA years ago. I currently have my son Giovanni enrolled and we don't plan on going anywhere-EVER lol. I've done martial arts for a couple years so I have a pretty good idea what to look for.. these days "some" Martial Arts places treat your kid like a car payment: 8,12 and 15 month contracts plus more extra's like large cancellation fee's. I went 7 different martial locations through SFV and they all have the same carefree script plus exact crazy monthly pricing. After reading reviews I finally found Master Sam and his team at FKMA and automatically feel in love with how everything was ran. First day walking in I had an hour conversation with Giovanni in his office not even talking about martial arts .. more about Giovanni's past, present and where he would like to go in the future!!! His approach is amazing he wants your child to flourish inside and outside his classes with grades, family and friends just life in general. Shit! After the first day I walked out learning something as a parent ..he really is a awesome man.... now to his kick ass staff! Nadia Master Sam's daughter I met only a handful of times but she's a total sweetheart. AMANDA, ANDREA & NICK are perfect additions to the classes ALL BLACK BELTS they're not there to watch your kid throw lazy kicks and punches. You better come correct with the 2 ladies cause you will get called out lol this places stresses "doing it right". No push overs here trust me when I say your kid will learn and have fun doing it. Bottom line been here for a while coming 3 sometimes 4 times a week (when we can) and wouldn't change a thing. Master Sam even switched up the times later for parents to make it easier to bring your child after school and work - 4:30pm and 5:30pm sessions! Come sign up you wont be sorry- tell em Justin sent ya :)“
“This place has been a gift and blessing to my children and I. Grandmaster Pak and his wife are good people, and it feels like family there. Structure, discipline, warmth, support, and of course Tang Soo Do!“
