This salon is a gem! The owner has begun to revamp the place, it's looking great. All the emp. are kind, helpful, and let me tell you these ladies know their business! They are skilled at making us look and feel beautiful! Kudos to them!
Berta is amazing. She REALLY knows hair, and how best to color different types of hair to optimize the requested affect. She knows how to best do this without damaging your hair or causing any other unwanted side effects. And her approach is sustainable (ie, does it in such a way that you can maintain it at home without having to see her constantly). I'm getting to the age where grey hairs are peeping out. Berta is only the second colorist I've experienced. I thought I had found s good colorist on the West side (had no other prior experience to compare), but over the course of seeing this person for a year, I just knew that her approach and general advice was making less and less sense. Though I really liked the "look" achieved, I knew this was not sustainable. I was having so many issues, she actually said I should see her weekly. The first time I saw Berta, she only gave me a basic trim. I only recently had my hair colored, so she advised me to wait at least 2 weeks before recoloring my hair, I will admit, that though her advice seemed knowledgeable and sound, I was more then a little nervous about my scheduled second visit. I really liked my current look, but needed it to be redone in such a way it was sustainable. Whereas, some women have only one solid hair color, i really liked not only a base coloring, but also highlights. Also, unlike the prior colorist, Berta would be using permanent coloring. She seemed confident that she would be able to do so without it causing any allergic reactions (had prior issues). It's now been 3 days since I've seen Berta. She was absolutely correct -- I've had no allergic reactions -- yea! Not only did Berta give me exactly the effect I wanted (base color and highlights that are sustainable), but also gave me excellent hair product information. Pacific Waves Salon / Berta is old school -- all the prior positives the prior generation experienced: - NO, they do not try to up sell you their products. They do not sell any products. - Absolutely no issues with parking. - Not a fancy, high tech salon, but one that has all the basic requirements and is comfortable. - Pricing includes drying and styling. Current West side trend is have you leave with wet hair, or you are charged extra for "blow drying". - Their approach is to make the customer happy in the long run, and not to maximize on their income (eg, selling hair products; getting you to come back frequently). On a side note, Berta is truly a "nice person". She is truly balanced in her outlook on life, and her approach to life in general. We need more people like Berta. Why 4 stars? Unfortunately, Pacific Waves is an hour drive away, with a lot of big rigs using the same freeways enroute (not comfortable when there are big rigs immediately in front, in back, and both sides of my car), but that's hardly Berta's fault.
I love Leah Osier, she always does a great job with my hair. Cut, color, trim, layers, balayage, grey coverage, you name it, she's awesome. She always curls or styles my hair before I leave and it never looks as good when I do it. Go see her!
