TL/DR: Be a strong advocate for your health or it could kill you. This doctor and her staff don't give a lick about you. I was a patient of Dr. V for only a year, maybe 2 back in 2015-2016. I had only met her once but we'll get to that later. Every other visit had been with her Nurse Practitioner, Jason, and although he seems nice he required more sternness when listening to my requests than I would have liked. I had blood in my urine on and off for months AND a history of kidney cancer yet he only wanted to get an ultrasound of my bladder. He thought the blood could have been menstrual spotting but I had to explain to him that I knew the difference between menstrual blood and blood coming from my urethra. Only when I was adamant they needed to check my kidney, too, did he give in and add checking my left kidney to the order. I also advised they take a urine sample which he declined. I, again, insisted and low and behold, I gifted him a urethral blood clot! (I felt it coming which is why I insisted on the first place.) During my ultrasound not only was it discovered that my cancer had returned, but that the mass that metastasized into local lymph nodes was quite large and had the nephrologist they sent me to sincerely concerned. I honestly don't know why they didn't immediately send me to a urologist but I gave them the benefit of the doubt considering the referral was ordered by the doctor herself and not her NP. (The doctor who I still haven't met in person.) The nephrologist was the one to refer me to a urologist. Skipping ahead a few months after my massive surgery and a referral to an oncologist (another nightmare and disgrace to her profession), I was prescribed an "oral chemotherapy" as "preventative treatment" for this Renal Cell Carcinoma they just removed. If you've ever been on chemotherapy you know that most make you feel like the walking dead. My prescription was for 2 weeks on the meds and 1 week off so if I was lucky, I was getting about 4-7 decent to good days per MONTH. That oncologist wanted me to take those pills for the rest of my life! How does that all relate to Dr. V, you ask? I know she can't control the poor decisions of other doctors but the one and only time I met Dr. V face to face was to request a second opinion about this oncologist's treatment plan. By this time, I had been on these killer pills for about 8-9 months and couldn't imagine living this sickly and purposeless life for the rest of my days. When I asked Dr. V about getting a second opinion she responded with a chuckle and scoffed at my request saying, "you're not shopping for tomatoes". I'll never forget her indifference and lack of empathy and decorum. I, again, had to be my own advocate and insist she submit for a referral authorization for a second opinion. I ended up speaking with 2 other oncologists including one from City of Hope. The second I paid for out of my own pocket for good measure. Both informed me that the oncologist I was currently with was using the oral chemotherapy outside of its approved uses and advised I stop taking it immediately as it could end up killing me sooner than the cancer would. I'm glad to know my body and my rights well enough to be able to advocate for my own health and pray that if you choose to use this doctor, I wouldn't trust her or her staff with anything serious. Maybe a sinus infection or just to get referrals to the specialists you know you need but that's pretty much it. She's otherwise useless and does NOT care about what's best for her patients since we apparently treat our health and wellbeing as if we're shopping for f'ing produce.
