You know how they say if you're a woman and if you're a woman of color especially you don't get taken seriously by a doctor? I didn't think that was true until my horrible experience with Dr. Gay. I came in, told him my shoulder was in pain, I wasn't sure why, but I was in so much pain it was interfering with everything in my life and I couldn't even sleep. We did an x-ray, he said he couldn't tell much from it and needed to do an MRI. I said okay, and he sent me to the front to get it scheduled AND THAT WAS IT. Come time for MRI, NO ONE HAD TOLD ME that it would entail needing to lie still on my back for nearly an hour. I'm young, I've never had an MRI, how the heck would I know that? Had they told me, I would have politely reminded them "remember the part where I said I can't sleep? I literally mean I CAN'T SLEEP." I tried to go through with the MRI, but I was in so much pain I was involuntarily crying from the pain (because they also have to put your arm in a position that further amplified my pain). The technician took me out after about 20 minutes of TORTURE and I met again with Dr. Gay who didn't even apologize to not taking me seriously. He said he would give me a cortisone shot, painkillers, and hopefully then I'd be more comfortable to come back and get the MRI. I asked him why he didn't give me this during my first visit and he said "I didn't think it was this serious." ...so when I said I was in pain....that wasn't serious? At this point, I've lost it. It was human of me, I hadn't slept in WEEKS, and I was in MASSIVE pain. I said I can't believe I'm being charged for this when the doctor has clearly messed up. They said they wouldn't charge me for 2 MRIs but I still have to pay ~$300 for a "doctor visit" that entailed a doctor not taking me seriously and doing nothing for me that he could have easily done had he just actually taken the time to BELIEVE MY PAIN? Man, and the look on his face when my MRI results came back. It turned out my muscle had torn, fluid had come in and formed a cyst that was pressing on a nerve and that's why, even on painkillers, I was in SO MUCH PAIN. It needed surgery to be fixed and you can bet I didn't get my surgery done by this sexist poor excuse of a doctor. I took my MRI results to another doctor, who looked at it and said this was an enormous cysts and extremely unusual to see in someone as young as me. He said I must be in a lot of pain and asked how it happened. He was a doctor I finally felt comfortable enough saying - "I think it started when my ex boyfriend shoved me. My shoulder started to hurt then, but not nearly the way it hurts now months later. I'd only made the connection after the MRI results because now I see how it started as a tiny muscle tear pain and evolved into a cyst pressing on a nerve pain..." Imagine if Dr. Gay had been any sort of real doctor competent in hearing patients and managed to listen to me, give me painkillers and the steroid shot my first visit, and had made me feel comfortable enough to share that? If you're a woman, do yourself and do not come see this doctor. He will not take you seriously and is the epitome of what's wrong with how women end up getting treated in American healthcare. I hope he reads this and seriously re-evaluates just how awful he treated me and what malarkey it is to have charged me for that first visit. Because of him, even though I came to him in early January 2019, after experience pain the last week of December of 2018, it wasn't until March that I got surgery and was finally not in pain anymore.

What happened? Poor follow up treatment in the Therapy Dept. with regards to providing the right patient information and their paper work. The Therapists are great like Kevin, Sophia, and Jamie including the Aids but of course they can only provide treatment as they are ordered and approved. Despite proving clerical with the paperwork, they are still confused and erroneously provided the wrong information (ie. being treated for right hand not left to my surprise). This is failure to include patient in on their their own care planning and treatment...mine! This feedback was escalated because the person at the front desk was unable to provide rationale and an explanation. Hope this changes.

I was directed to Dr. Besh office after seeing another specialist since they did not take my insurance. Before even heading to this location the specialist called Dr. Besh office and was told I can come in right now to be seen right away. I made sure to let them know I needed to be seen right away since I just gave birth and had breast milk on me and I needed to drop it off to my daughter at the NICU in Washington Hospital. Denisse, at the front desk was kind enough to let me store my breast milk in the fridge. Good thing, because I was nearly waiting over two hours! When I finally got into one of the waiting rooms, I waited again SMH. When Dr. Besh came in he was in and out. Told me I was getting surgery the next day and he was out of the room immediately. No more then ten minutes top. I enjoy the staff here. From the front desk at Dr. Besh office to the OT side. Everyone is kind and friendly. For his staff I would give four stars. As for Dr. Besh, one star is a little too kind already. Yes, he did a great job during surgery and what not, but the amount of time he wasted of his patients like myself is something I can't get back. Currently I am in his office again, waited for over an hour. Yvette, checked in on me because another patient was complaining. Not a surprise. Was told he was on the phone and not answering his door after knocking several times. Last I was here another MA told me there was a medical emergency, okay fine. But I have been going here since my daughter was born and she's already four months. Not one day, does he see me on time. I was asked if I wanted to reschedule...like come on. They know I moved so I haven't been coming recently and this is the only time I have and was able to fit something in and this is what I come to. Sooo annoying. If you're patient and don't mind sitting out wasting your time, sure come here for Dr. Besh. If you're time is valuable, please find another office ASAP. I'm going to move Drs most definitely. As much as I liked the OT side, I can not waste time here. So now I'm going to walk out....
