“Seb was our go-to handy person for every problem for years. He was our first line of defense for plumbing, pest control, home projects, lighting fixtures, picture hanging, wallpapering, small repairs -- you name it, he could tackle it, fix it, or tell you honestly that you needed a specialist. Even for smaller projects like hanging a gallery wall, he was incredibly detail oriented (measuring everything precisely, taking great care in the end product) and he was extra careful of my two young children at home, taking additional safety precautions (e.g., thinking about little fingers or climbing children) without me asking. He _always_ cleaned up after himself, which I felt was a nice touch (he didn't leave dust or dirt on the ground after a project, which other repair people sometimes would) and I could trust him in my home without supervising. He's an all around good person, who takes pride in his work and enjoys working with people. Now that we've moved out of the city, I'm going to really miss my go-to handyman!“

“I have never written a Yelp review before but I felt compelled to do so after John and his work partner did a great job of salvaging the backside of my house that needed painting. It was a project I have lazily put off for a couple of years. I started getting caught up in the El Niño warning hype and when late September hit, I started to get a bit worried about the probable damage the back house siding would endure with the impending rain coupled with my very neglected siding...so I shopped around for painters. Being that at the time of my search the weather was consistently warm and that daylight savings was about to end soon, this just added more pressure on me to get this job done fast. I knew painting had to get done before the soon to come colder climate and darker days. I immediately found out that contractors were in high demand, charging premium prices and/or not available until at least a month away. I stumbled across Cal Painting and Decorating on Craigslist and gave it a call. John came out the same day I called him and gave me a competitively priced estimate and was ready to go the following week . Admittedly I was a little nervous that in this very demanding time, this guy was not only available but also affordable. I have had bad experiences with slug workers from Craigslist before and was slightly pessimistic. Anyway, they did an awesome job. They were meticulous with the prep work (washing and scraping) and put on 3 coats of paint during 3 and a half full days of work. John even threw in some extra work by offering to scrap and paint areas of the front of my house that needed minor touch ups for no extra charge. I have the confidence to face El Niño well protected. I will definitely hire John again for other projects.“

“I hired Ed to install a thermostat that I thought was broken. His communication was very responsive and he was available on short notice. He arrived wearing a mask. He spent quite some time trouble shooting the issue, explaining what he was doing. At the end of the process the problem was not the thermostat after all but rather a broken screw-in fuse. Billing and payment was quick and easy. I will definitely be giving him a call for my next handyman issue.“
