Love this little spot! No bells and whistles just two very skilled ladies. As a newer resident to the South Bay, I have been making my rounds to my local neighborhood shops. Vilmas's has been my go to for trims and blowouts. Nothing beats a great wash, and blow out for a reasonable price!
Took my 1 year old son for his first haircut and LOVED it! Although he cried his eyes out, She was so patient and quick to get the job done. Will definitely be coming back for future haircuts!
In the past few years getting your hair done (probably due to social media) has become some big fiasco: places are offering alcohol, wi-fi, club-like atmospheres....and I'm like, "why?". Probably because those salons/barbershops are looking for ways to charge more. Anyhow, I felt compelled to write a review because Vilma's has been my go to place to get my autistic son a haircut. We've all seen little kids with the barber. It's a tear-filled cry fest which makes it uncomfortable for all in the shop. It's times 10 when you have a kid with autism. I've been to many places up and down the South bay that advertise themselves as a "great place for kids" equipped with cars for seats, toys, colorful décor, TV's, kids DVD's, jungle gyms, etc. I've been disappointed at all of them. The bottom line is no matter what frills you put on it, those places' staffs were always too uppity for my taste. Partly because they're in higher end or more expensive parts of L.A. My kid is autistic so I know it's not easy with the screaming and all but don't advertise yourself as a "great place for kids" when the staff just really isn't down with that kinda stuff (rant over). Overall I would say Vilma's is a relatively basic place to get your hair done for cheap. Vilma's is old-school really: probably a place mom or aunt/uncle would get a cut, not too trendy or hipster. I wouldn't say this is the place to go if you want the latest and greatest thing in hair styling. They don't have a website or any social media presence that I know of and the location can be a bit sketchy. But it has to be known that this place is great. The big shining spot for Vilma's is the customer service. The people are great/patient (especially with kids) and when I'm there I never feel like I'm "below" them and they never turn me away when I walk in. If you have a kid with special needs kick Vilma a few extra bucks and feel good about coming in cause she'll treat you and your family right, the old school way.
