My kids have been going in there for about 5 years now. I believe in such a sensa shawn system. My kids are 9 and 11 year old. It's a good commitment to have in your life for your kids.
I am so pleased and thankful for Camarillo Shotokan Karate! My oldest has been attending for the last 4 years (excluding shutdown time). My little one has been going for 2 years. Though out this time, Sensei Shawn has been a great mentor for both of them, including myself. They strive to be better people and make good decisions. At the dojo they are taught and expected to treat others with respect, take responsibility for your actions, understanding and controlling emotions, to be aware of their surroundings, teaches them about stranger danger and how to defend themselves, along with other lessons that will benefit children in life. Then these lessons are learned and our children will carry them where ever they go. I know my children need great mentors in their lives and at Shotokan Karate, there are many good people they can learn from. Thank you to everyone there :)
Our family started here in 2010 as our oldest son started Kindergarten. We hoped to improve his focus and discipline ... and being small for his age, a little self defense would be nice, too. What we have gained here in the 10+ since goes beyond anything we could have imagined. Now with two sons training, starting with Sensei Victor and now under the leadership and mentorship of Sensei Shawn and the AMAZING group of senseis and sempais, our kids have learned LIFE lessons that go beyond karate. Yes, they have learned the techniques and skills of shotokan karate - my son who started at 4 yo is now a brown belt and our youngest son is an orange belt - but they have also learned commitment, respect, leadership, and confidence. They have learned awareness and focus. They have learned about partnership, teamwork, responsibility, and community ... and we all found an extended family.
