I highly recommend Megan, and Knead in general. In a city as stressful as Los Angeles it's nice to find a refuge. It smells good, it sounds quiet and Megan's deep tissue massage is magical! I've just been once and I can't wait to return.
I was in dire need of a massage, my back was a mine field of knots, and John did such an amazing job of getting them out! I have had other massages that were good, but just shy of deep enough to really get the knots out of my back. I left feeling AMAZING. It's been a week and my back still feels a thousand times better. Not going to deduct a star for the no frills environment, because this is a massage therapy center, not a spa!
Months of stress have caused my body to feel as if it's closing in on me so I figured it was high-time for a massage on Friday. I was seeking an economical solution since funds have been tight. I've passed by Knead many times as it is within walking distance of my apt (good thing, since street parking seems to be a bit of a challenge,) and after checking out the website, I figured I'd give it a shot. The receptionist was accommodating, setting an appointment for me at my desired time despite the short notice. She immediately asked if I preferred a male or female therapist; I told her it didn't matter, whoever she would recommend for a treatment involving deep pressure (my personal preference). Upon arrival, I filled out a form to indicate areas I would like the therapist focus on, ones that should be avoided, as well as reasons for my visit. For me it was simple: to relieve the knots collecting especially in my back and neck, but addressing all areas was fine, and noted again I was ok with deep pressure. Just based on the above, it was amazing that I received exactly what I was seeking. My therapist was Robert, who was younger than any who has treated me but surprisingly very well-versed in techniques. I was also pleased with how thorough the hour-long treatment was: from my head down to my toes. After my session, I looked up some massage terms to determine the combo of techniques he used and recognized Deep Tissue, Shiatsu/Acupressure, upper chest massage, etc. that he performed on me. Talk about custom-made! It was so great that he somehow read my mind without much direct communication at the beginning. The aftermath was great - I could feel the effects immediately, and felt ready to conquer the world! Knead is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, and certainly 'no frills' - tiny waiting area, bare rooms, a somewhat dingy bathroom in the back, etc. But for the level of quality I received for a bargain $48/hour, I'm sold.
