I spent 45 minutes this morning trying to find another urgent care clinic that was covered by my daughters Medi-Cal plan, just because of the miserable reviews of this urgent care. Finally we went in, and we had a great experience. Check-in staff was super nice and helpful and got us in as a walk/in appointment instantly. Nurse was very friendly with my 3-year-old and skilled at testing kids. Dr. Shic came in and explained the test results and we were on our way.
I have to return today due to the doctor not properly addressing my questions or providing proper education. My nephew tested positive for strep throat and all the doc did was give me medicine and then left. he didn't even educate me on strep throat or discuss that I might need meds for it. Also, he wrote the wrong prescription for my nephews and I waited several hours for him to change the prescription. My nephew has been uncomfortable and in pain..it.was beyond messed up. When I saw the doctor in the parking lot, I asked do I need antibiotics or do my nephew need antibiotics and he replied I don't know you guys aren't my patient and I would have to see y'all. He did say if symptoms show up, we should get tested. Although, my nephew with strept throat has been right under me. He is only 1 years old. Now I have to try to return to an urgent care seeing that I have a sore throat this morning..uh second trip in the rain.
I wish I had read these reviews before booking my appointment here. I usually go to the Urgent Care in Walnut Creek, but the slot I needed there disappeared as I was filling in my info to schedule. I see my PCP at this location, so thought the Urgent Care would be a good option. Even though I am a regular John Muir patient and also see a doctor a this location, they did not have my insurance info on file. The woman checking me in was pretty frustrated, saying I was going to be late (I got held up in the traffic jam in their parking lot due to massive construction) because she had to verify my insurance. I was then escorted immediately into an exam room and the doctor came straight in. He started off fine, but it soon became clear he didn't really think he could do much for me, nor did he really believe my issue to be what I know it to be. He recommended I try to get in to see my PCP for this urgent issue, when I knew she wouldn't be able to see me for months. He was very dismissive, condescending, and complained about other patients in a pretty unprofessional way. I really do wish I had been able to get into my PCP, but that is never possible on short notice, and that's what Urgent Care is supposed to be for. Next time it's back to Walnut Creek, or another location, for me.
