“Last winter's storm blew some shingles off my roof. I decided it was time to replace the roof after 27 years. Having heard many stories about unscrupulous roofers, I spent 10 months researching and reading up on blogs, reviews and company websites. I interviewed quite a few roofing companies. He showed a lot of patience answering my questions, he was warm, sincere and showed a genuine willingness to meet customer's needs. Nelson was reassuring throughout the process. “Acker has done a spectacular job for me. For years I had a pesky leak around my chimney, for no obvious reason. Acker has been patient and we have (hopefully) found a solution without opening up the whole roof.
Acker's tech Kevin worked very hard in the hot sun to seal the chimney bricks and otherwise patch areas where the water could be coming in. Acker's bill was very reasonable, and I was especially appreciative of the methodical approach taken.

“Our 18 year old Monier Lifetile Cedarlite roof had many broken tiles due to its inherent fragility and foot traffic from painters and solar equipment installers. Most roofers that we contacted refused to work on it because of its fragility. We eventually found 3 roofers who made bids (one without even going up on the roof!). We chose California Custom Contractors (CCC) because the owner, Greg Meo did a thorough inspection which he documented with photographs. His proposal, again carefully documented with photographs of the proposed repairs, was not the cheapest of the 3 but its thoroughness and Greg's obvious experience with Cedarlite tile roofs (again, more photos of past jobs) made the choice clear. We learned that CCC does not install new roofs but only does repairs.CCC cleaned moss and other debris from the roof, replaced and painted all pipe flashings, replaced all broken tiles and installed metal flashing to replace the original cracked lead flashing. All of the work done was documented with photographs. Our roof now looks fantastic and we are confident that there will be no leaks. Greg and his team of 3 very experienced workers were a pleasure to work with and get my highest recommendation. If your roof needs careful conscientious repair, call California Custom Contractors; despite their generic name, they only repair roofs.“

“Project- Balcony/Patio tear out and reinstall, including waterproofing, drainage, and repair of a leak.My house is about 80 years old; I discovered that there was a leak from a (nearly) roof-top patio down into the dining room wall below. Ben came over, assessed the situation, and was very up front about the price being determined by what they find after they pulled up the patio flooring. Unfortunately, it was kind of a mess under there. Ben explained the process and pricing very clearly and set up the different crews for each layer of the the tear out and reinstall. They were great about working with my schedule, Ben always called me back if there was an issue. The job, which was a multi-step project, was finished pretty quickly. Everyone was very polite, cleaned up and carted away any debris after every layer and they were even very nice to my dog, (who can be a little annoying ) it looks good now and I am confident that the waterproofing is solid. “Jon brings a lot of experience and integrity. He alerted us to the need to not mix types of exhaust vents on the roof (i.e. powered roof vent with ridge vents and gable vents). In doing more research as a result of that, I learned a lot and was surprised at how little other roofers knew or were willing to discuss. We ended up going with a different roofer when we had our roof replaced, but am regretting the decision. Now during the actual roof replacement, the costs of additional repairs to replace plywood sheating, trim pieces, etc from this other roofer are extremely high. In Jon's contract, he spelled out the costs including labor to do this additional type of work.“

“I used Cornell for a roof repair 20 years ago (2004) that lead to redoing a flat roof section. Quality was top notch. For 2024 that roof being close to thirty years old it was time to do a full replacement. I spoke to number of friends to see who all they used and got four different bids. “Like everyone else's, our roof started leaking in last winter's rainstorms. Our go-to favorite roofer isn't certified for flat roofs like ours. We called another local roofer to patch the leak, but he said it might not hold because the leak might involve our solar panel supports. He was right. We called Diablo Solar, who has done all the solar installations for our family and earned our trust again and again. They patched the leak temporarily as a warranty repair. We agreed that replacing the roof was overdue, but should wait until the rainy season ended. Diablo's customer support tech explained that our solar panels would have to be removed for the roof to be replaced, and that also was covered by their warranty. We wanted a company that was compatible with our solar people; they recommended Steve Meier. Alberto, the roofing estimator, came out and gave us a very reasonable estimate. That was in April or May, and they were booked until August, but we were fine with waiting for a rain-free month. In the meantime, we ordered an independent roof inspection before and after the job, so both companies had the same picture of what was needed. Let's make a long story short. We now have a beautiful new roof and working solar. Steve's roofing crew and Diablo's solar team, in spite of never being at our house on the same day, coordinated seamlessly. There are symphony orchestras who don't play that smoothly together! Steve's people were punctual, the job was done well, and the area was always left clean and tidy. The workers were polite and pleasant. In spite of the sounds of people walking on the roof, we were happy to have them here. The inspection was a good idea. The followup inspection suggested a few superficial things; Steve sent out a crew promptly to take care of them, and we were done. The cost of the new roof was actually a little less than the estimate. I hope that answers your questions. If you have a flat roof, this company is very, very good at covering your needs.“

“After 30 years of dealing with constant repairs to our Flat Roof, we finally decided to go for a new one. Got many estimates and did a lot of research into the best method. The "oldtimers" wanted to do the "rip off the old one and tar and gravel a new one". That is SOOOO 1980's. The younger ones had several different methods, most of them way too expensive. The more I read the research, the more i liked the Silicone Method. It's fairly new but highly preferred by experts especially for the "Dreaded Flat Roof". I found Pitre Construction and Roofing, a family owned business that's been an East Bay (and beyond) favorite for decades. I dealt with Ricky Petri, the son of the founder. I really lucked out. He is a big proponent of The Silicone Method. It's waterproof, has no seams to fray and leak, keeps the house 10 degrees cooler (delightful during this current 90/100's heat wave). They offer a 5,10, or 15 year manufacture's warrantee, depending on the thickness of the silicone used. The roof is power washed first, then treated with a primer and taped flashing, then completely covered in General Electric manufactured Silicone. There are no seams. Ricky is a blast to deal with. He's a high energy, delightful young man who's been doing roofing with his dad since he was 5. The workers are professional, experienced and very tidy. We were totally thrilled with the result. If any of you have been dealing with the torment of a flat, or long-term leaky roof, i feel your pain. It's so comforting to not have to think about the upcoming rainy season for many years to come. Ricky's estimate was VERY fair, way cheaper then the 10 or more estimates some of which went as high as 16K. If you're in the market or just tired with dealing with the stress of wondering which part of the ceiling is going to leak or fall this winter, give Ricky a call.
