Valley Churches is an amazing organization, that is here to help most people in need.Based out of Ben Lomond, California in the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains. I have lived here since 1968 and have been in both situations as a donator and as someone in need. I have been very blessed to be of help, and to get help from them. So I was shocked today when I went to pick up my Thanksgiving food I signed up for last month and was denied food because my name wasn't on the list. Now I understand all the pressure that these events can cause, but mistakes happen and the right thing to do is to try to fix them. Instead I won't name names, but I got yelled at by the person who was sent to speak to me! I was really embarrassed and shocked to be treated this way! The person was sorry, but nonetheless she wouldn't help me and now I don't have Thanksgiving dinner for my family. Apparently because I hadn't been to the pantry in several months I couldn't get the help I signed up for. Im shocked because as I said, I only go there in time of need and for time to donate!!! I don't go when I don't need to because that's not what I'm there for, that's just using and abusing the organization! I don't understand how I could be turned away and yelled at just for being there to pick up my food. What can I do now? This was handled very badly and I'm truly upset!!!!!
I have a lot of time for these people and I make sure to give them a nice-sized donation every year. Out here in the mountains I know that everyday life is hard for some people. I also know that in times of disaster or emergency, it is hard for all of us. No matter what, the people at VCUM are always there ready to help the community. The run a tight, clean facility. They treat everyone with respect and seem genuinely appreciative not only with the help they receive, but also to fulfill their mission to help others. If you are passing through Ben Lomond, check out their gift shop. If you want to contribute to an organization that helps out people no matter what their color or creed, check this one out. Most importantly, if you or your family needs a helping hand, call here first.
