From Service Dog Tutor
The service dog tutor provides private training of clients’ dogs for service work and therapy dog work. I use reward-based training and games during instruction. I retired from dog training in May 2021; and I’m only working with advanced service dog students at this time. I offer public access training and testing as well as consultations for new dog owners. My service dog clients are using their dogs for assistance in dealing with mobility issues and for dealing with chronic diseases and pain. I also provide consultations for clients who are seeking the right dog to add to their household whether it is for service work or just a family pet. I do not board for dogs for training nor do I provide dogs for service work.
We have been training with Jean for the past six months with a combination of online and in-person classes. I was amazed by Jean’s knowledge of service dog training. She helped my dog learn skills that I didn’t even know existed and worked with him on proper service dog etiquette. Our lessons were always structured very clearly and she was able to teach my dog so much in a very short time frame. I’m so grateful for her help.
Jean is such a special person. She has been training my puppy with me to be my service dog for mental health. This is a very different type of service animal to an animal that helps with physical disabilities. It requires a lot of patience and understanding that every mental health disability is different. Jean has infinite patience and understanding. She is constantly checking in to make sure we are training things that will give me the support I need, while also teaching me how to love in a world where my disability is not outwardly visible. She really is one of a kind, and trusty cares about helping everyone she can!
