She has always been the sweetest, smartest girl, but we were starting to struggle with being unable to control her extreme excitability despite trying another trainer previously, and all our own best efforts. Some other issues we were having included pulling on the leash, leash reactivity/excitability towards other dogs, inability to settle anywhere other than home, jumping up on people, and poor recall. We felt like we had tried everything, and weren’t making any progress.
Our dog walker referred us to Jeff at Sit Happens. When we heard it was ecollar training however, we were definitely very hesitant. Although I didn’t really know much about them, I was apprehensive due to their reputation as being “shock” collars that cause pain. Our dog walker reassured us that they do not hurt the dogs, and that they are a communication tool that working dogs like Ruby often actually enjoy. We decided to meet with Jeff, as we truly felt we had tried everything else.
Upon meeting Jeff, seeing him interact with Ruby and his own dog Rocko, we felt at ease. We tried the collar on ourselves, and it feels like a TENS machine that is used at physio. Definitely not a painful feeling, just enough of a sensation to get your attention. Anytime the collar is on, her tail is wagging and she is calm and relaxed. When she is distracted or catches a scent offleash, we sometimes have to turn the level up slightly to get her attention, and then back down to baseline.
After 1 session with Jeff, she had already mastered loose leash walking beside us. We couldn’t believe the results. After 1 month of using the collar we brought her on vacation with my family, and they were all so impressed. Ruby was able to settle, was not jumping up on people constantly, and her recall was so incredible that she was as able to be off leash in an unfenced yard ALL week. The ecollar has given her such a better life with so much more freedom.
We were also thrilled to see how much she loved the training as it provides her with so much mental stimulation! As vizsla owners, we realize now we focused mainly on physical exercise to tire her out by running and hiking before, and while she still needs exercise, she needs the mental stimulation that this training has provided even more.
There are still areas we need to work on, such as her leash reactivity. But it’s a work in progress, and we are seeing improvement. We will continue attending Jeff’s weekly classes in the park to practice remaining neutral around other dogs, and listening to commands around distraction. This is all included with the training package for the life of your dog. We couldn’t be happier with the service Jeff has provided, and would recommend this program to anyone.“

“The staff was very professional, prompt, & friendly. They took care of our dogs. It was a safe place for new comers like us as the staff made sure they observed and assessed overall adaptation to the new surrounding. They were honest to give us their feedback. They were quick to send updates and even pictures. The place is clean. There’s enough space for the dogs to roam around and we can see our dogs had fun. It is a place where we would leave our dogs again.“
