Had a shower that had a worn out cartridge, called Scottsdale Plumbing and inquired what it would cost over the phone the receptionist did her best to give me a ballpark quote after looking up my part and calling me back. They provide free quotes, whether over phone or a visit to your house. Made an appointment with Sean who was on time, took a look at my issue and went right to work and had zero issues with installing a new cartridge. We had a new main water line from the street meter to the home replaced about ten years ago. It started leaking at the meter. So I called another company that wanted to replace the entire line, saying that the copper was leaching and needed to be replaced for $4,000. Ken Hanns came out and replaced the affected section for $550. He said that the line had been installed with a kink in the copper and that little section failed. He said that he also normally backfills with line with sand so that rocks don't damage the copper. We were probably good to go for a while. I am now more cautious about being upsold for more than I need since I already knew that the copper should normally be good for decades. And that other plumber was eager to bill me for $4,000. Always get a second estimate for costly repairs.
