I needed a haircut in the worst way. I tried Yelp to see where everyone else was going, then I realized that everyone else gets $50 haircuts. I'm not that stylish and I pretty much just don't care that much about hair. So I took my chances and stopped at the first place I saw that had a sign that wasn't in Spanish. This cool little salon is tucked in the back corner of the plaza that hosts the Hidden House/Bruno Mali's and Mi Patio. When I first walked in, I was surprised to see how clean and simply decorated this place was, because I wasn't expecting much from a salon in the same building as a check-cashing store. I was quickly greeted by the one employee at the time and told that the other hairdresser would be back shortly. She showed me a couple of style magazines to look though while I waited. Within 5 minutes of my arrival, the other hairdresser appeared and started chatting with me about what I wanted. Since I was the only honky in the place, I soon realized that my choice of salons may have been made too hastily. But my ignorance soon faded when I stopped to realize that all hairdressers go to the same school. Also, Verlena (Sorry if that's wrong!) my hairdresser, didn't hesitate for a second upon seeing my thin, straight cracker hair, so I took that as a sign of confidence. We had a few laughs about how badly I butchered my hair when I decided to cut it. And she was incredibly helpful in asking questions that gave her some sort of idea on how to cut my hair, since I couldn't describe it. For a wash and cut, no styling, I paid $20 plus tip. I thought that was a more than fair price and was happy to pay it for the service I received. And I am very happy with my haircut!
