My 18 year old daughter was a new patient today. It's been quite sometime that I had taken her to a dentist. Just a couple years ago she got her braces removed and during that time she was getting cleanings as she was going for her ortho appointments. The Ortho was always so impressed by how she took care of her teeth...I knew she had some anxiety but my daughter was all smiles going into the appointment. We were laughing in the lobby filling out her paperwork. Making jokes with the lady behind the counter... Within 20 minutes I hear my daughter crying. Nothing hurt her, but the noise of the tools in her mouth caused her to have a panic attack and we decided to get her to a specialist instead. No problem at all. I get it, the dentist cannot do his job unless we figure something else out. This is where the problem occurred.....It was suggested numerous times by 2 different people that I give her a "valume" before her appointment. Usually before it is suggested that I give my child a muscle relaxer I'd assume they find different ways to calm someone down if they are having a hard time. I'm not a dentist but....Maybe "take a breath, relax, let's talk about what I am doing, or "Let's have you listen to your phone or put in your headphones" (they made her leave her phone away from where she was sitting) or "maybe we have some headphones here because we have a lot of patients who also deal with anxiety?"Everyone was so quick to just say here take this it'll make you feel better. I do not approve of the suggestion. Nor the attitude of the lady at the front desk. She is rude; has no empathy; wears her emotions on her face, I felt she asked me questions every 3 minutes about my daughter. There was another patient in the lobby, no mask; coughing up a storm. I don't tell a lot of people about what my daughter experienced years ago... I didn't think I had to. But never have I heard of so many different people suggesting to give my child a drug to calm her down.... She is and will be in recovery so she cannot have muscle relaxers!!!!There are so many other ways to deal with dental anxiety. With out having everyone else be in my business I should've been pulled to the side and not spoken to in front of another patient in the lobby. I have never heard of that being an option less than 30 minutes into the appointment time. So just by looking at her X-rays and poking the gum line you were able to verify that she had 12 cavities!! They never finished the exam they barely even started it. I'm sure there's some people who have a really really good experience as I've read a lot of really good reviews but my experience wasn't very good at all.
I have been coming here for about a year now and love the staff. Always super nice and willing to answer any questions. Also LOVE the hygienist Christina (I believe is her name) !!! She is always so nice, informative and makes me feel right at home!
So... I've seen Dr. Nia just a few times so far, hence the 4 stars. I can say that up to now their staff is great and Dr. Nia is wonderful! I knew going in that I have a lot of work to do eventually. The procedure that I needed right was done very efficiently. I've never had work done without feeling pain from the anethesia. You can tell that Dr. Nia knows what he's doing. On top of it, he's super nice and makes you feel very comfortable. I'll follow up a few months down the line but am anticipating saying nothing but good things about Dr. Nia and his office staff!!
