I located this contractor on the website for the AZ Registrar of Contractors. He is listed as in good standing and with no complaints. I went ahead and signed a contract. What went right was the flagstone on the patio, he did a beautiful job on that. He was to build a surround for my grill and had to lay a cement pad to support the weight. The pad was 2 inches too short on depth and instead of repairing it, he slopped some grout in front to be flush and it looks bad. That is unfortunate as he did a nice job on the rock surround. It is the pad and the visible part in front that detracts from this. He was to laser level and grade the property and put decorative gravel in the yard. The yard is not level, he left large and visible tire tracks all over the yard and used "AB" gravel that is used to pave roads. It looks horrible. He then insisted that this was high grade material used in China to build unpaved roads. We are not in China and I did not ask him to build an unpaved roadway in my backyard. I have disabilities and poor balance severe enough to warrant a program trained and certified service dog. Since the yard slopes down from the leading edge of the patio, he promised to build steps so that I could navigate safely off of the patio. He did not. I repeatedly addressed this and each time he assured me I would have steps, and then when it came time to build them he stubbornly insisted that a sloped embankment of gravel covered dirt was best, despite acknowledging that he watched me attempt to navigate this obstacle and understands that I can not do this. He then left me with an unmitigated safety hazard. I am unable to exit my patio from the leading edge into the main part of my yard. He is difficult to work with, does not listen and can not be relied upon to do what he promises. This is sad as he is really good at rock work. I found his personality difficult to work with and felt uncomfortable with him on the property. I finally paid just to get him off of my property. I would not recommend this contractor.
