I was just at this store and met a nice man named James in the jewelry department. He was very nice and polite. I was shocked at how nice the store looked. I was telling him how my local store in California didn't look that nice. I wish I had more time to look again but I saw it on the mall and it was one of my favorite stores I had to stop in to see how different an Alabama JCPENNEY'S is to a California one. I bought a few things, if I had more time I would have bought more. Great customer service

JCPenney inside the University Mall in the heart of downtown Tuscaloosa, Alabama proudly serves customers at this store! JCPenney is still one of the nation's largest retailers of apparel, home, jewelry, and beauty merchandise with a growing

This location suffers from the same problems I've seen at other JCPenneys. It's overall drab and sad, with poor selection, and though there must be a fair number of people working there, I certainly didn't get any help. The juniors' department seemed to consist of denim, winter coats, and clearance, and like the rest of the store, was an absolute disaster. They had some great sales on jeans ($15 a pair and buy one, get one for a penny), but the stacks weren't remotely organized by size and despite signs advertising boot cut, almost everything was skinny. I found sizes up to 9, and then they seemed to skip to 19 -- being somewhere in the middle, I was pretty much out of luck. The belt section in accessories suffered from similar disorganization, making it almost impossible to systematically look for anything. I get that customers aren't exactly tidy, but geez. I had to look around pretty extensively for a fitting room, and the ones I found were incredibly beat up and had not been cleared anytime recently. I returned to try something else on about 2 hours after my initial visit (everything still left as it was), and while I was in my room, a couple of employees came in and were tsking about the mess and how disrespectful it was. Look ladies, I didn't start this mess, but clearly y'all don't attend these rooms on any regular basis, so I'm not going to swim against the tide here when it's clearly a lost cause. Also, I absolutely HATE the way Penney's sets up their registers, in a complete circle. Other customers inevitably fail to understand that there is ONE line, in ONE place, for ALL the registers (by the sign that says "Line starts here," sigh). Just today, an older couple walked right up to me, asked if I was in line, and when I said yes, it starts here, they promptly went over to stand behind a customer at another register. Again, I understand that the store can't control its customers, but the fundamental setup here is working against them. Finally, other than the cashier, my only interaction with an employee was when I was browsing and someone from the salon came up to me to offer me a 15% off coupon. Which was a disappointment, since for one tiny moment I thought someone actually cared and wanted to help me. No one was in the fitting room, no one was on the floor, and other than the complainers in the fitting rooms on my second visit, no one seemed to be making even the smallest of efforts to tidy the store or help customers. So now that I've been, I remember why I didn't go sooner, and why I won't be back.
