The owner of the business is a wonderful and lovely woman. She is clearly overwhelmed with volume of work and has trouble keeping up with the number of jobs she takes on. The quality of her work is really high, just don’t be in a hurry. I had her replace the lining of a 40 year old sleeping bag which that also required some repairs. It turned out great! I also had her turn a few t-shirts into throw pillows. The prices all seemed fair for the quality of work. The business is located in downtown Homewood and is easy to access.

I unfortunately do not have a lot of good to say about this business. Her work ranges from adequate but unapologetically late to clothes having been butchered. It's been a few years since I've used this business but from what I've heard, my experience is still the norm. Having recently had a really wonderful alterations experience in another city, I was inspired to share my experience with A-1. I don't know that I have another recommendation in Birmingham but you're better off with tape and scissors than using this business.

I'm not sure why these reviews are so terrible. The owner of A-1 has always been kind & friendly to me, and has done quality work. The only minor gripe I have is that the hours can be very iffy at times; it's like a crapshoot as to when the place is open. But as far as the alterations themselves & customer service, top notch.
